I have 1986 trx250r...motor is stock, it has an esr trx6 pipe and silencer, I lost ALOTTTTTTT of top end with this trx6 pipe setup...going to be used mostly for trails and jumps...the carb on there now is a stock 34mm PJ05AAAB and its shot and leaking after 2 rebuilds so I need a new one.. Should I get a 36 or 38mm?
What should I upgrade to so I can still retain my low end but gain more top end?
Also will I need a new throttle cable? or manifold? clamp? get rid of the airbox etc?
thanks

get a 38 a/s carb, as long as the rubber boots are soft, you can stretch them fit the carb. Go to a auto parts store and get hose clamps. For the throttle cable, you can get a motion pro cable, or a stock 85 atc250r cable(it is different than 86-89 trx and atc cables). On the 85 cable, it screws into the cap and what happens to fit a 38 a/s exactly.

the 38 pwk a/s seem to work well on most R's. Feel free to play around with different carbs to see which works best for your riding style.

I would have to disagree.

His post says clearly, "I lost ALOTTTTTTT of top end with this trx6 pipe setup...".

The 38mm carb is a top-end carb. If his top end is gone, why would he sacrifice throttle response and low-end power by using a larger carb?

It just doesn't make any sense to have a top-end carb and a low-end pipe. The highest potential of a 250r is achieved when it is dedicated to a specific riding style, and all components are matched to compliment each other.

With a low-end pipe, I would stick with a low-end carb, like a 36PWK.
