View Full Version : Ultimate Hybrid motor?

I came across a U.K. site that had some CBR400's. I guess it was a production bike in the U.k. but I have never seen it in North America.

I'm looking into the cost of the motor and shape/setup to see if it would fit in a quad. I've seen people do CBR 600 motor's in quads but think it's a little overkill. The 400 would be better suited because of more useable power range.
Excellent fuel economy, long maintenence schedules - 16000 miles between valve adjustments etc. Better reliability than the single cylinder 4 strokes.

What's your ultimate hybrid motor?

haha i think i might have made a little lie, if i had to build one and had no price limit i would go with the aprilla 550 i think... its a v-twin... supposed to have some MAJOR power! but i would still with something between the top 5 manufactuers. Personally i wanna see a nice kxf motor in a aftermarket 250r frame of some sort

Maybe not the ultimate transplant motor but for a bit of fun over the summer built this Blaster frame based bike fitted with a GPZ500S motor - the result is "interesting" and wipes the smile off of 700se Raptor riders face's in a straight drag - have not had it flatout yet but it's pretty damn quick 0-60!!

The CBR400 is a Japan only bike, however some have turned up here. I've seen motors in Formula SAE cars and duner 250R's. The frames on the R's had to be hacked up a bit.

YZ400 :). little vibration. lots and lots of torque. No radiator or valve adjustments. Lightweight.

That's pretty cool man! Talk about 2 Blasters both at extreme ends of the scale. Your 4 stroke an my 2 stroke :)
Got and vids or sound clips? Tell me more about your casssy and suspension set-up.

Ultimate Hybrid:

XR650R motor in a 450r frame or 250r.

would the xr650r motor fit in a 450r frame without cutting it? (not cutting it too much anyway)

Id like to put a Harley Davidson Sportster 883 motor in a quad. Loads of torque. Now that would be awesome.
