View Full Version : hey pappy
I was just wondering, I already pmed you, but I need a quick answer, Me and my dad have a choice of either a nikon d-40x 10.2 or a canon rebel xti 10.1
I've read somewhere that the xti is no good unless you put an aftermarket lense on,
but the d-40x is no good at all if I want to shoot indoors.
I will be outdoors for the most part, but if you had the two infront of you which one will you bring to the track( outdoors ), ( if you were a newb, such as me )
And say 3 months down the line i want to add some stuff to the nikon or the canon, how is the aftermarket as far as lenses and whatnot for each item.
Thanks in advance
Mike

flip a coin, both will do great for someone who will use it in auto mode
my brother uses a canon rebel xti and the shots look great, but knowing about photography will help both cameras give up what they are capable of. you dont buy a set of snap on tools and poof...your a master mechanic.
cody uses his in manual and gets good results, and the other program modes seem acceptable as well with the d40x

I'm leaning towards a conon rebel xti beacuse I hera theres a bigger aftermarket as far as lenses. is the a alot of different lenses that i can put on the d40x, i read that you can aonly use the nikor lenses?
just re-read it, please excuse my spelling.:(

if you plan yto buy non manufacture lenses, then canon is the way to go in the entry level body
are manufacture lenses alot more than non?

typically yes when apples & apples are compared. the d40 uses an internal motor for its lenses and will limit you to either nikon only for now as i havent heard of any others available. you can use other nikon lenses on it, but you will be forced to manually foucs etc.
id suggest taking a good look around the web, as nikon d50's refurbed can be had for $300 and offers more IMO then the d40 and canon rebel, but the rebel will work fine.
Money is very limited to me at this time, so if i buy a camera i want to be sure its going to work. What are some site that you would recomend, reliable and customer friendly? Would you recomend buying a rebubished / used camera ?

ebay is a great place as well, just check feedback and try and buy from a larger camera store on there. reburb units are fine

those were used with the 55-200 kit lens. the 2nd pic had a gold reflector used to bring out the edge detail. i havent tried any of my lenses on the d40 but i have a feeling it will make a world of difference.

Hopefully I will have a 55-200 VR lense in the next couple months. Seems to be a great deal for the $$$$. The only downside is that I've heard its not a very quick lense... which would be fine for me as I do not plan on shooting much action.

I don't know if you got your camera yet, but newegg.com had a promo going on a couple of days ago for the Canon XTI with lense, a digital picture frame, 1 GIG CF card all for $695.00. Pretty good deal
