Me and friend are going to ear down our 400ex's this winter and paint the frames and what not. How much time would it take to strip the bike to the frame, paint it, and put it all back together again?

If your going through all the trouble to tear it down, why not powder coat the frame? Just wondering.

It took me about 3/4 of a day to tear the quad completely down,,,,it took ALL day to put it back together,,,so 2 days on the tearing down and reassembling, the rest is just according to how long it takes you to prepare and paint!! But I do agree that thats a lot of work and if your going to do it you should go ahead and get it powder coated!!

Be sure and use ziplock bags and label them. Save a lot of headach in the end.

Me and a buddy dissasimbled a suzuki frame and installed a Handa motor in it, all in 1 day. We rode it the naxt day.

id say about 3 hours to strip it to the frame and probly 3.5 to put it back together because even with the ziplock bags you'll misplace something. i always do

Thats not as bad as i figured. Im gonn paint it instead of powdercoating cuz i tont feel like shelling out the dough to do it right now maybe next winter or the one after. Im gonna do 2 coats of primer, 5 coats Orange or red ( havent decided ), and 2 or 3 coats of clear coat. And Silver maier race plastic is going on top of it!!!

all i gots to say is how great of a mechanic are/do you think you are. time all depends on staying on task, knowing what your doing, and familiarity with something like that, lol......the first time i pulled my motor and took it apart i think it took me and intire 12 hours. this time i was very familiar with everything and knew exactly were everything goes and what to do and it took me an hour and a half, so all i gots to say is BUY A MANUAL!!!!!!!! so u know how everything goes back together, cuz if u let it sit for a few days to paint it u will have a really hard time remembering were everything goes so make sure u get a MANUAL and a TORQUE WRENCH if u don't already have those 2 much needed items

jus my 2 cents

I tore mine down and rebuilt it last month. Everything came off the frame except the crankcase. Unfortuantly, I have only can work on it/ride it on fridays. It took me five weeks to complete. Heres a pic I took when I tore mine down last year. (i do it every year)
