I take it the lower rod bearing went? How many hours on the crank?

had the same thing happen to mine about 3 months ago, original 86 shortrod crank, had a fresh topend with around 220psi and a nice portjob done and i guess it was too much abuse for the 21 year old crank. sent mine out to la sleeve to get redone. i was amazed to find that while my head was tore up and my piston looked almost as bad as yours, it didnt touch the cylinder walls at all.

I have two years worth of harescrambles on it and no telling how much time on it before that. So im suprised. I guess I will have a new bearing pressed on the counter balancer while I have it apart.

Anybody ever have a crank rebuilt with a rod kit? Just wondering if it is worth it compared to a $200 new crank.

Where are you finding new cranks for $200? I had a pro-x rebuild done on my short rod crank for $180 shipped.

im guessing he's talking about the hotrods crank, and i've heard alot of bad things about hotrod cranks so i went with a pro-x rebuild.

that is deffinately the route to go. i had my last crank pro-X built and that was 4 years ago. last time i was in there freshening things up it was still to spec.
dont even get me started on "Hot Rod" cranks. :rolleyes:

Had new OEM crank fail with less than 6 months on it, so I bought a Hot Rod crank for around $165. Been using it for almost 2 years now.....

Anybody know who makes the crank for honda? Did a search about hotrods crank and it was a mix of results. I will buy a stock crank. I have put my stock crank through hell so thats what I will buy.

i've got an orginal crank and rod assembly that the main bearings went out on... i just went ahead and threw a whole new OEM assembly in my bike...
so how much is it to get rebuilt at Pro X, and anybody in need of one?

so many people just buy a part and install it.
its like buying an esr "ported" cylinder and comparing it to a quality portjob.
hotrod cranks are not great out of the box, but true, weld, and balance them (as you should do with any crank whether it is oem, pro-x, new rod...etc) and you won't have a problem.
numerous drag racers run these cranks at the track and hill and don't have problems.
the guys that have the problems are the ones that just buy and install. I've ran a few hot rod cranks for years without issues.

i'd prefer to sell it before the rebuild... if you want i could ship it straight to whoever youre gunna have rebuild it, to save on shipping costs having to ship it to them yourself...

I just spoke to my hookup at the local parts store and can get a new OEM for great price. If you think once, I buy that and pay $180 for pro-x rebuild it, I could have a BRAND NEW one.
I think I will do that....

Yeh, a lot of guys on here have been complaining about HotRod's but that makes a lotta sence wut havinnoj said, they prolly just installed it and had problems and whined about them.
Wut kind of fuel were you runnin, cuz that looks like detonation?

I use a mix of pump and av gas. Thats not pre ign. Thats a 22 year old crank that had enough of my racing. I have used mobil 2t oil for years and just switched to klotz last year and was happy with it but didnt notice a difference over the mobil because I was going from a very good oil to a very good oil. I cant blame the crank bearing failure on oil but only on my thumb not giving the engine a break after prolong balls to the wall four stroke smack down straight aways through the woods. I dont need big bore unreliability any more either so I will continue to use a ported out 86 cylinder. I think I will open the intake just a bit more and match my new piston to it. I might open the exhaust a bit too. I can tell you this ported cylinder compared to my big bore is not far off. They are very close in power. I ran this same track last year on a 295 resleeve. This track had some very nice straight open areas that let me hold the throttle pinned. This will be a self learning experience if anything. I would like to see how many years I get from my new crank and screaming top end.
