Billet hubs as strong OEM?

I need new rear hubs and I've only had the OEM ones. Are the billet ones worth the extra money and are they as strong?

BTW...I'm looking at the LSR ones.

No, they are not. OEM is the way to go, plus cheaper, too.

Just curious what your reasoning for this is?

I would think machined/forged billet aluminum would be stronger that stock cast hubs.

Aye, I would also. I would think they would be less brittle.

I am still running my stockers, so it is an honest question.

Either way, OEM should be good enough. Rear hubs don't break that often on most models.

The reason I said that is because I was in the same situation that I needed a new hub, and I was instructed to stay away from the aftermarket aluminum hubs because they do not hold up long due to a bunch of people supposedly had "spun out / stripped out" the splines in the aluminum, whereas in an OEM hub, the steel will hold up to abuse much better.

if you keep your axle end nuts tight, this doesn't happen. That is the reason why hiper stopped selling the integrated hubs, people stripped the hubs out, due to loose axle end nuts. I have seen several of these due to the same reason. I have integated hubs on my 250r's, 4 years old and no stripped or stripping splines. I have older lsr hubs, same thing, nothing stripped. Check to make sure they are tight and you won't have this problem.

That doesn't make them weaker. It is true the aluminum is softer than the steel and the splines on the hub will wear out before the axle does, but they are certainly not weaker. The cast hub will be more likely to break before the billet hub.
