After searching posts and the web, I found a sturdy looking hitch from http://www.cambridgemetalsandplastics.com I was able to order this through my local Honda dealer for about $30 + tax. It's CM&P part #1301. The hitch is made of 1/4" plate and the mounting bar is 3/8". Here are some pics of the hitch, and I'll post up some more after I install it this weekend. This should come in handy around the house hauling around firewood in the lawnmower cart and other light duty hauling chores that are to heavy for the riding mower.

If you have the time and material, this would be pretty easy to fabricate yourself. We're in the middle of a move, so most of my tools are in storage at the moment and I needed the hitch quickly so I decided to go ahead and buy it.

That's one of the main reasons + the lawnmower can't get through the woods or up hills very well.

Here are some pics after installing it this morning. I also tightened the chain since I had to replace the lower swingarm bolts with longer ones provided with the hitch.

How much weight can that hold?

I'm not sure what the the weight limit is. I'll be hauling firewood, dirt, and gravel/rock from time to time so probably 500 lbs max for my use. I don't wan't to overload the clutch on the 400EX since it's not meant for heavy utility jobs.

Since I'll only use it for this reason occasionally, I can't justify a utility quad. I bought it for trail riding!

If you wanted to comment make sure it isn't a stupid one. Occasional use won't hurt it. Just keep the weight low

Thanks for posting this! Having one of these available when needed will come in handy. Makes a great Quad even more versitle.

After searching the net and the link you provided they only list them up to the 2005. But, I did a little Honda parts investigation and the swing arm and rear shock link are the same thru 2007. So the hitch should work thru 2007, and hopefully 2008.

I found them at Pat's Small Engine for $24, plus $6 shipping!

They are at the bottom of this page..

Thanks again,

No problem. That's a good price!

this would be great for backing up my trailer into my backyard. hard to do with the truck. BUT...my 400ex doesn't have reverse! maybe if they had one for my z400.

I actually have the same hitch on both of my '03 400EXs. I use it to roll my PWC from the Toyhauler over to the boat ramp to launch. The carts have four wheels, so hitch weight isn't an issue.

Take a look at:

This is a great idea! I wish I would have had it a week ago. Over the past week I have hualed almost 3 cord of oak out of the woods. Cutting it splitting it and stacking it on my nerf bars and idling out of the woods with the wood strapped down to the nerfs. It sucked. But it worked. I would have much rather of had this!!! I got a small trailer that is for the lawn tractor this would have worked perfect!!!

I have been trying the links I can get too the this link, but is that the same hitch? has anyone got one???

:D Got one coming!:D

Had to do some research! Any Tucker Rocky/Quad Boss dealer can get them for you. The same part works on the 450R as well :D

Yours looks a little different. Do you got a picture of how that one mounts up?

Yes the picture is wrong the Hitch is the same from the other pictures on this forum. Sorry for not explaining that. The Picture on Dennis Kirk is not correct it's just to show you it's a hitch but they do send you the right hitch for a 400ex all year models.
