What Paddle Tires do you Guys run and recommend???? Please post suggestions...... Also, what is the wheel bolt pattern for the rear and front? thanks

My 525 ran awesome at Silver Lake this summer, coud not be happier! All of the chopped up sand is smoothed out by the IRS so no harsh vibrations caused by wheel ruts in the sand. It gets great traction and has lots of power to drag, shoot hills, and just cruise the dunes.

I am running a single fin front but have heard the dual finned Sand Star fronts work very well on the Outlaw. As for Rears, I am running a 20x10x9 8 paddle Hauler and the hook up is awesome! The only bad thing about the Hauler tires is that you don't want your buddies running behind you or they will not be your buddies for long! They throw up a ton of roost just cruising straight. I have also heard nothing but good about the Sand Star rears and they do not throw the roost like the Haulers.

I do not remember what the bolt pattern is but I got my rims and tires at Rockymountainatv.com. You need to call them and tell them not to reverse the offset or else they automatically make them too wide due because you are ordering sand tires (at least that is the line of BS that they fed me when they shipped the wrong wheels). My wheel and tire package has me at about 50" wide and I thought it was perfect for the dunes!

I went with STU set up 22x8x10 Razorback on 7 inch wide wheels and Sand stakes 21x12x10 comp cut on the rear. Had to order the rear wheel from DWT to get the extra width I wanted I got a 3x6.5 off set. I feel the front are a must have for the sand with the extra traction of the IRS it pushes in the turns with out them. Get 22x8x10, 21x7x10 dig in a little in the turns. 4x110 rear, 4x156 front

I am running Skat Trak Edge 20x10x10 with 8 paddles. They are cupped like the haulers but are a v-paddle so turn a little easier. They hook up incredibly well and like Eerhard said they throw a monster rooster. I would not suggest the rear Sand Star. I have them on my wifes '07 Predator LE and they do not hook up nearly as well as the Skat Trak Edge. Even though the Sand Stars are listed as 20x11x9 and are supposed to be 1" wider than the Edge tires they are actually quite a bit skinnier.

Thanks for the great info guys, but I have another question. Skat-Traks are available in several different blade counts, why?
What will more blades do for me? What blade amount is best?

eerhard09

More blades for quads with more power. That being said, the 8 blade worked well for me but you may even be able to get away with a 7 blade.

8 max 6 or 7 better over 8 and you will lose top end speed. Most of your 450 sand drag and comp hill racers run 6 or 7 paddles.

just as an update to this thread i wanted to throw in my $0.02.

i previously used sand stars on the rear of my outlaw and felt they were ok for playing around but were poor for racing. I just bought and rode a set of Kenda Dune runner rears and they are head and shoulders better and cheaper than the sand stars. Although turning required a little more effort they made for a much more consistant ride. When drag racing my buddy's YFZ would beat me out of the hole with his 8 paddle haulers. These worked great for hill climbs with the only exception being when they encountered the powdery silt at the top they wanted to dig a bit, which made it a little harder to torque my way over the top when I wanted to.

hey someone i have been looking at the kendas.
i think imma go with that setup because i want a nice drag set of tires.

just wanna know how much of a performance (turning). then curved or edged padles?

I think i may go with this..
Kenda Dune Runner Rear 22x11x9
4/110 4/130 Douglas .125 Wheel 9X9 4.0 + 5.0
i really dont know anything so if someone can please comment on this setup and tell me if its even possible and will fit on my 08 outlaw 525s

for $185 i think its the lowest price for any rear sand tires..

I just got these for my 700xx I can't wait to try them out. I *had* some AMS sand snakes that sucked BIGTIME.

On the budget side, AMS Aerospeeds worked well for me. On the lil bit more $$ side, I have the same set of Skat-Trak Edge's on my outlaw, and they are very sweet :D

I bought the 22" kendas as well, 4X110 is the rear bolt pattern. are you using the tire/wheel combo? it should give you the factory spacing if that's what your after. plus it's easier and cheaper than buying the wheels and tires seperate.

I bought the complete rim/tire combo in 10" rims for something like $208 shipped.

im thinking of getting the kenda geckos now since i think it would be a better all around tire then the dunerunners.

what do you guys think?

Why a .125 wheels the bolt hole are easy too rip out and they bend very easy. If you only drag and hill race they are great any other usage they will bend. better off with the .160 or .190 for durability go with the 22x11x9 so you can get the 9x9 wheels you want to make the tire as wide as possible for better flotation.

an 8" rim wouldn't even fit on your quad.

Same thing with AMS Sand snakes. (I know, I know..I mentioned them a few posts up...)

I called my quad the 700XX Ditch Witch at the drags because I would spin them so bad.

Based off reviews I found the Skat Trak Haulers to be the best type of tire for my outlaw. During further research I found that Skat~Trak Extreme Grip's are based off the same design as the haulers but are stronger and built for higher HP machines. Check the reviews out on rockymountainatv everyone there LOVES those tires!

Yeah, I was going to get those then I switched because I hate how my IRS quad turns like an aircraft carrier with straight paddles.

On my first Outlaw I had big push in the turns add ITP Sand Stars it turns like it is on rails, get the 22x8x10 for better flotation.

Yep, I ordered 22x10x10's. 20's spun like really, really bad. Plus stock I'm geared for 22" so when I put 20's on it made my rev limiter in reverse suck even worse.

i have a set of the 12 paddle extremes on my zilla and yes they are a great tire, but they are also expensive.

In regards to the Skat Trak Extremes?? What do you mean? Like it couldn't turn for crap? Inform me before I pick a set of those up and hit myself in the head I have IRS too!

If they turn THAT bad then what do you all think about the skat trak edge's? I will be doing a lot of dune cursing.. I spoke to a guy with a lot of experience and said straight paddels work fine to side hills and not to worry about it that straight are hands down the best... whats your input on that?

somewon

what happens is you get a lot of push in the rear that can make it harder to turn, you will notice it more in areas like sand trails and such.

The it depends on how many paddles you plan to run and what size tire as to how bad the push will be. For example, my zilla dunes great at little sahara, but when I start playing on the trails I need to do a lot more work to get it to steer in the direction I want.

Ok well for the dunes out here which is nothing but sand I will be doing a bit of drag racing but more so want to cruise the dunes. To be honest I have always used dirt tires at the dunes.

For a 09 Outlaw IRS with jetting, k&N, ehs racing lid, and exhaust, which tire would be best?

Is it THAT hard to turn with straight paddles to the point its not worth it even though they are better in drag racing?

My two choices are the Skat Trak extremes 8 paddle or the Skat Trak edge 7 paddles.... I would kinda be pissed if I got the edges then lost some drag races due to no hook up

I already have a trail set

I need a dune set specifically for soft dune sand.

it's not too bad. if your main focus is drag racing go with the straights.

Yes, if your main focus is drag racing, straight paddles are best.

Also, I'll have my edges delivered this week. RMATV warrantied my crappy sand snakes out and are sending me the Skat-Trak's mounted on the sam rims. (for additional money) :)

For cruising the Sandstars are good. I would look into the new Maxxis Razr Blades. They seem to look like they would be a good tire.
Also you can get a different offset to help widen your rear while at the dunes. It is not like you need to worry about trees. So if your buying through RMATV you can look up honda rims a 5 x 3 offset and have your self a more stable quad without having to purchase extensions or longer a arms.

Keep in mind though, the wider your rear is than your front the more you will push at low speed.
