450R swinger interchangable with 400ex???

My buddy has an 01 400ex.... has a plus 1 1/2 swinger on it with longtravel elka link and shock... He's now moving on to an 05 450r.... question is can we take off the rear shock and swing arm bolt and switch the two of them so the swing arm that was on the 400ex is on the 450r and visa versa????

Idk if I were you I would just try to bolt it up if you don't get an answer soon. I have been wondering about this as well. Please let me know if you do.

The only difference is the width of the carrier housing on the 450r is narrower . It is like 3/16 narrower than the 400ex.
so you would have to grind about 3/16 off of the right side or brake side of the 400ex swingarm housing.
or use the 400 ex carrier and hardware.

I have the complete rear end on my 400ex with elka lt shock and linkage... can I just unbolt it from my 2001 400ex and bolt it onto a 05 450r with no problems........ what would have to be changed??

I think as long as you take the carrier and axle with it you will be ok.
