Just curious on why all the LTR's in the for sale section all either say newer motor/fresh motor etc....These machines were supposed to be sooooo great and they are already blowing motors?......Any input appreciated

Most of the new 450s need at least 2 pistons a year if you ride hard or race. It's just the way it is, doesn't really matter if it's a honda, yamaha, or suzuki. These new high performance 4 strokes pump out so many RPMs that they require engine maintenance similar to a 250 2 stroke bike.

The stock coating on the cylinder sucks. Thus changing pistons more often saves you from having to buy a $500 cylinder. To all those that have the time and money I would suggest getting your stock cylinder replated. I just got one recoated and matched to a CP race piston and it is a really, really nice fit!

I've been on the same piston for 2 years, I guess I don't ride enough. I'm gonna get a new piston and cams in the spring though.

On how many hours should I change my piston? I have been running a Pro Design filter and clean it after every ride.I also change oil (Motul Semi sint)every 10 hours.I have got 55 hours on the clock with no problems, not even tranny noise. It runs like hell after the TFI was fitted.

I don't think the piston is the problem, the tranny is whats breaking. I have about 45-50hrs of really hard riding on mine and the piston is still fine.
