This is the first time I got to really use my Rebel XTI or any SLR camera for that matter. I don't think I did to bad:) Diffinatly an upgrade from my 4.0 MP Kodak:p

Last weekend for open track, then it closes for the winter :( And my quad wouldn't start... so there's just dirt bike pictures of my brothers and some people I don't know:o But still fun, none the less:D

Pointers? Tips? Let me know!

WARNING! LOTS OF PICS!

There yesterdays news:blah: j/k There was only a few 2 strokes out there that day. Yeah the backgrounds are pretty dark. Most of the shots were right in the sun though.

nice pics, but for the darker ones, you should open them up into photoshop and bump up the brightness a tad. im colorblind so it might not be perfect. but this will make ur images a lil more crisp

Yeah, that's what I need to do with most of them. I need to get photoshop on my new computer, because I don't have crud on this one.

What lense were you using and what settings was it on?
My 1st shots w/ my new camera were funny looking :o :p LOL

Keep practicing and you will have it down in no time! :) Invest in some good lenses, pics are ALOT less effort that way.
Use the editing program that came with your camera. Its a very helpful tool ;)
My next purchase will be PS lightroom, thats what Im hoping I get next for Christmas. :)
Have fun with that new camera!!
I thought Id play a little.
Straddleline was a VERY cool track!!

Me personally I would rather learn how to perect my OWN photos than use PS. But thats just me .Its great tool to know ,but I would not like having to depend on it .To me it takes away why we all love the" true" beauty in photography.

Timing isnt bad , but you need to get to learn how to shoot in manual so your sensor doesnt give you false exposures when there is light and dark in the shot.

try downloading for free www.gimp.org it is very similiar to PS for slight corrections etc. but if you learn basic photography you wont use it very much!

I was using the lens that came with the camera. It's a 18-55mm. I diffenitly want to try some better lenses. What kind of lens would you recommend for a beginner, hopefully not to pricey:uhoh: But that's probably unlikely:p Those pictures look alot better, especially of the dog! But I feel what you mean about not wanting to rely on PS, and maybe at some point I'll get there:)

Im sure you will get there !:)

Unfortunately, a good lense is no chep in most instances.I think the cheapest lense I have was about 75.00 on a 55mm and I LOVE it!
For sport shooting a 2.8 is a must! Prepare to spend over 1000.00 for it ,but its soo worth it!
I have that lense , I chose to buy the non IS version as a few photographers told me I probably wouldnt miss it all that much(I think for inddors, I really do!)
Play with your settings and use the histogram .Im not sure it the XTI is fully manual or not, I know my XT is not. But DEF. get out of Auto modes as much as you can .Next time Im in the Wash. area, Ill help ya if you need it ;)

Thanks! I used to have gimp, but somehow forgot about it! So next time I'll try manual! And I'm sure that alone is going to take ALOT of practice just learning how to focus, especially on moving bikes.

No it's not fully manual. So I was cheating:o lol I'll make a note of the 2.8 lens, non IS. The only indoor track around here is Oakwood and that's not even worth shooting. So it would be all outdoors for me. I guess I need to read alittle more about this camera, because I don't even know what most of the setting are. So I think that would help! lol

Oh wait, I do have another lens I forgot about. I bought the camera used from someone on here and didn't know they were sending another lens with it:D Lets see... it says it's a Canon Ultrasonic, 55-200mm. Would that one be any better than the 18-55mm I was shooting with?

Yes, that will be better for at least someof the air shots your trying to get. But that lense will be somewhat slow . I too have a 4.5-5.6 and it has got me some good shots, but still a little blurry.
Here is your lense I believe...
Do you have a UV filter for it?If you have no filter, invest in some. They are inexpensive .

Also, spend some free time on some photgraphy forums. They are very helpful!
Im going to be taking some classes online this year since thats about all the time Ill have .

Yeah that's it. I was playing around with it and your right it's hard to get it to focus on anything actually. I remember why I never take it out of the camera bag now. I'll pick up some of those filters too! Arn't they also meant to protect your lens also?
