Is it just me or is construction cost rapidly increasing. I am looking into building a shop on my lot that is 30x40x12.

Cement work alone is going to be 6 grand which is almost the same amount of the kit i am looking to buy. 30$ a yard, plus foundation work and preparation.

I figured around 15-17k total to do the whole project myself. 21k to have it done by a contractor

what do you guys think?. Should i go metal or wood? Metal seems to be a little cheaper, but wood would make my building more versatile (meaning i can put anything i want anywhere as far as the shelves, or maybe have a 4' drop down celing over part of it to have an additional storage up top

For a shop that size I wouldn't even put in foundation, just build it four post.

Just build it metal since it's cheaper, and buy shelving units instead of hanging shelves.

I would use wood for your main support areas and metal everywhere else.
