Ok guys just bought a 86 250r and need to get it set up for trail riding . What should the gearing be ? Whats the best way to get more bottom end ? What shocks to buy that will not brake the bank? Any info would be greatly appreciated ,The only add on is a fmf exhaust and 20over on the cylinder .

Thanks

up the compression for better lowend. i know if u run a different headgasket, it will do the trick. i need to check one of my old 3 and 4 wheel actions to find out the specifics...or mill the head. for shocks, get the rear rebuilt and some non rezzie elkas are a good budget choice. other than that some 21" front and 20 or 22" tires.

well pipe wise go with a paul turner type 6 best low end pipe.

For the stock cylinders, use a double base gasket, then a single .010" metal head gasket.

the thin head gasket comes from the cr250 2 wheeler

Yes, 1990 I think has the thinner head gasket, or just order an OEM metal 86 head gasket, take it apart and you will have two this head gaskets.

I also noticed it had a 14tooth on the front sprocket ,what is the best gearing ? The tires seem a little big also I think the fronts are 23 and the rear are 22

call houser-racing 1-877-646-3278 they have one set of +1+1 long travel a-arms for sale. probably around $350 or less for the set brand new, you could offer them less and he'll probably take it to get them off the shelf.

89 CR250 is .028

And why would you double the base, that will make less compression.

For low end theres lots of things, pipe, port, gearing, lower tire size.

Power you could port, mill head, or get cool head with wutever cc dome you choose, pipe, filter, bore, stroke. Make sure it is JETTED RIGHT for you to get more power out of it especially after adding mods.

My front is a 14

And I got works that treat me nicely.

Look at this thread I posted. I've got my motor set-up listed about half way down the thread. Works great in the woods for me. And I smoke all the 450s off the start. :D
