hom much side to side play can you have in your piston rod

my crank barrings are good no play what so ever now the rod has no play up and down but has a little side to side is that correct are is it soupose to be tight to

Side to side play is fine if its not much. I cant remember what the limit is as far as a measurement goes.

I can't remember either and I don't have my manual in front of me but .017-.021 comes to mind. Maybe someone with a manual can chime in with the answer.

I had a hard time feeling or hearing the up and down slop in my rod. Instead I grabbed the small end and moved it side to side to check it. It felt a little loose using that method. When I got the crank back from the rebuilders it was a lot tighter using that same method of going side-to-side rather than pulling up and down to check the rod clearance.

.030 is the limit on the side clearance. But I've seen some aftermarket cranks have almost this much brand new. :huh

I thought .040 was the limit, .020 is what you get with a new OEM stock crank.

how do you mesure this i understand what that means but i dont understand how to mesure that

I use some feeler guages and see what fits in there.
