View Full Version : Building a track in the winter in my back yard

well, when we have a good foot or 2 of snow i'm going to build a track in my backyard. my friend Randy is going to help. he shovels everyone's driveway with his older brother. they are going to bring down a couple trailers full of snow and hopefully we will have enough to build 2 single jumps and 2 berms. my backyard is long, but narrow. we're making plans for the track now. or we will just build a big double, like a stepdown.

if anyone has other ideas let me know.

You better get something good to pack down the snow with cause ur just gonna crash into the piles, lol. but good idea! you should try to make a ice track in ur back yard. build a big path and let the hose run awhile :D

i'm not afraid to crash because snow is more forgiving than dirt. we're probably going to beat the snow with flat shovels for a while:blah! lol.

i am going to go to the powerlines down by this business and the snow plow works on sundays. the people at the business don't work sundays. we always make a cool jump there out of the snow bank.

lol. have fun that will take you along time. your just going to sink into it. if you have a snowmobile take that around the track a bunch of times and wait a few days for the snow to sit and that will work very well.

there are a lot of neighbor kids who think i'm nuts when i ride. i asked them and they all agread they'd make a big pile of snow and i'll make the lip and everything. here are the neighbor kids, connor(7 years old, KX60), Marlaina(12 years old), me(13, 250EX), Randy(13, Bear Tracker, Magnum), Mat(18), Sean(15), i don't know his name, lol(Quadrunner 230, 14), my brother(10, TRX90), David(his friend, 10), Colin(14) and i'm going to invite a bunch of my other friends from school. it's probably going to take a good weekend or they cancel school. this should be a fun winter!:)

yes when building snow ramps it can be forgiving, as in plowing strait through it after shoveling for 4 hours forgiving.:grr lol, take my advice, don't spend a bunch of time on a lip or anything because most likely somone is gonna ride over and flatten it or a sled will try to "jump" it and do a burn out on top of it.

shizzle my nizzle?

yeah. i'm going to try and get this little bike jump i use, about 2 feet high and we are going to cover it with snow and put it halfway down a hill and jump it:blah. im going to get a video of this! i snowboard so i'll probably jump it with that.

We do the same thing for our sleds though.... I might go to our ICE durby track with the 400ex this year... Have a good rip! Maybe not.

last year my cousin broke her foot jumping. lol. she went off the vertical down jump and she it endo and she pulled the left brake and went right into a steal pool foot first. haha. it was funny. then my dad was at the top of the hill, so i jumped on his warrior, and rode it back.:blah

here are some pictures of my yard. i'm getting some ideas for it. i'm going to put a bank up by the tractor. i'm going to put a 2-way jump halfway up the yard and another bank where i'm taking the picture.

i think when he said bring out the hose he meant so he can put some water out let it freeze and then slide around with his quad. Thats what i think maybe wrong though

How do you plan to put a track in their? It looks really small to me and you have to get speed and its in the snow so I don't think it will work. You can try. And you better hope you get snow this year. I would take sleds to pack it all down!.

TC17

we have 4 quad in my neighborhood. we're going to go over and over the straights getting them packed down. i'll just have to keep it in a lower gear. i hope it works. yeah i could probably get twor 3 kids on a sled and i could tow them around for a while. that would get it packed down good. i'm not to sure about the berm yet. that would take a lot of snow and i don't know if we'll have enough to do 2 berms a jump but definitly the jump stays.

yeah the dog's got to go!:p.

No way, build yourslef a dirt track in the summer, snow is pointless. Are you only going to build a kicker with no landing?

When someone said sleds I think they were reffering to snowmobiles because a couple kids in the back of a sled being owed ain't gonna do much.

DaveEX7

yeah that didn't work. we'd need way too much snow to even build one jump. so this one guy at one of my band's gigs came back and remembered me and made me a jump. our neighbors told him to come over to plow and he made me a nice jump. it's 3 or 4 feet high. i was doing some neat stuff. no hander landers, saran wrap, nac nac (hurt my back), and other stuff. i hurt my back when i tried the nac nac. i didn't get my foot back on that good and i didn't land that good. i got some pics on my regular camera i might get the pictures later this week. they aren't that good cause i started trying the tricks and jumps today. i have a few little ones on camera.

Oh and Anthoney, By the way, you know all those kids you named at the begining(sp?) of your post who you said "have agreed to help build a snow pile", well half of them haven't. First, Colin doesn't even live in the neighborhood, Matt won't help, that's a fact, Marlania won't, Sean won't, and maybe even me if it comes to that.

randy. can you please shut the he!! up! it didn't work out. instead of hurting myself on a snow jump i'm be jumping higher than you head and winning some races to prove you wrong. how's it sound?

Blasterkid195

You couldn't win a race if your life depended on it. You would get smoked.

Are you going to get a different quad than a 250ex? Cause you might not be winning too many races with one. Maybe if your against another 250ex, but blasters are more suited for racing than a 250ex.

Right, if there is some kid with an R he will kill you. I think a 250R is just a little faster than a 250ex. Remeber that 2 stokes have a good, strong, power band.

Yeah your right the blaster probably would win if the rider is good but blasters are not good for MX at all. There suspension is pretty bad. Maybe some suspension mods would help them out a lot.

i'm racing Outlaw D class. i can gurantee that there won't be a 250R in an Outlaw class. then i'm entering a beginners D class for a spring series. i doubt that a 400EX or R would be in a D class with beginners and not being able to double. they might also have a 200-300 class. or a beginners class. i'm not going to be racing with the big guys until i'm 16 with a truck i can haul my 400 in cause i'll have it by then. i'm just beginning racing. i'm not a pro up againt an R. this is just for fun. get some trophies.
