I have an 06 450er and when I turn the key and hit the ignition button the starter just turns. But it doesn't connect with the engine to turn it over. The starter is the only thing running. Is there a solenoid outside of the starter, back by the battery that could be bad. Or does it sound like my starter is toast.

thanks

Sounds like it could be your oneway clutch for the starter.

It started right up, but over winter I will probably pull the starter and check out the clutch to see if it needs replacement.

Thanks Again

you do know that there is a recall on the starter...they replace most of the starter...

That's good, You should probably check on the starter recall if you haven't already.

thats exactly what it is, the one way starter gear

same design as the rappy (very poor)

if it backfires it shaves the tips off the gear
(dont touch the gas while starting, it makes it worse)

get the recall done
