I only put a better stock cam and rockers in the 92 250x. Man does she run better! Not to mention sounds better. No more tick-tick-tick. Haha

Sorry for the foolishness. I just wanted to let those 250X/300EX riders out there know.. there is always hope for these bullet proof machines!

Long live the X!

Also, I am ashamed to say, I just bought an 02 Raptor 660. Does anyone have compression numbers for it? Of course it won't start...

ah, you had the old round lobes...

yea these motors have really survived, considering they're based off a 33 year old design.

Oh they were round, alright. You just "eyeball" the cams and see a significant difference. It pulls so much better!

What do you mean these are based on a design from 1974?

Motor was out of an old retired motorcycle that they already had the tooling for. Add a counterbalancer and put in a reverse gear and wala.. atv motor. As was the trend for most ATV's.

i've got some CYCLE mags from 74 with a test of the 'new' xr/xl 250 and they had the topend apart and almost everything looks the same as the 250x/300ex/350x. everything except for the points:eek2: hanging off the side.

here's (http://www.oldrice.com/xl_page.htm) a cool site about the older motors. and they were going crazy with the motors back then. nothings new:cool: after looking at some of these articles, i think the 250 came out in 72.

I never knew this is where these engines came from! I learn something new every day. Haha.
