I think you have to have a 25x bottom end. if not then i wanna do this

there's a guy on ebay with a flat track 300 who converted his to kick. i actually just sent him a message a little bit ago because i'd like to maybe look into this for a winter project

from his pictures, it looks like he just swapped that side because he still has his starter, too. well, the case at least. he said he took the start itself off to save a little weight

but this would be a neat mod

well he wasn't a whole lot of help (no offense to him he told me what he could)
he said he had his mechanic do it so he's not real sure what was all needed.

that would be my guess. i looked at pictures of the tranny and everything last night on bikebandit comparing the 300 to the 250 and it's all the same except there's a kicker setup in the right crankcase (obviously)

definitely something to look into

All you need to do is swap out the cluth cover for a 250x cover and buy all of the internal kicker parts and the lever. MIne is complete and ill post some pics of ASAP. And also find a rev limiter of of a 350x three wheeler easier starting.

As far as swapping cases i dont think it would work because the 250x and 300ex uses different crank bearings.Im sure it could be done though...if i really wanted to do it:D

boylan300ex said all he had to do was just switch the outer clutch case (ya know, so you can attach the kicker)

The 300ex has a neutral switch and reverse switch on the clutch cover, the 250x has only one switch.

are they NEEDED? because by the sounds of it, yours would be mostly for more high-performance use and wouldn't use reverse a whole lot anyways

didn't mean for that to sound mean at all, i'm just sayin'. i don't even have the stuff for reverse on mine anymore

Dude I love having a kick start. Electric is great and everything but I'd rather have the reliability of a kicker lol.

for sure. my battery connections come loose all the time, random wires get unplugged every now and then, my battery wires come out of the little connector things sometimes. and then i sit around looking for like an hour trying to figure out where the connection went bad

i sorta get a problem like this butt my wires just get dirty and for some reason it dosent get enough power to turn over, so on long rides sometime i gotta push start it.

The Kicker is already installed. I basically wanted it because of all the electrical problems that I have experienced. Have not actually seen if it works becuse the cut out for the kick started is not in the Maier Custom Plastic so the lever is not actually on yet.

Also my reverse has been disconnected for a while now and I dont miss it one bit.

Thanks for the number I might give him a call for some other repairs.

Also planning on installing a 400ex swing arm. i saw it on walker fowlers bike

Yes, you can install a kick starter to a 300EX. You need the 250X all the kicker gears inside the clutch cover and you need the reverse gear shaft. You can use the 250X clutch cover but loose the neutral light, or you can have the 300EX cover machined to match the 250X and add the bearings and seals to it for the kicker. I having a 300EX cover machined, so I can keep the light and add the factory 350X oil cooler to the bike.

I have a 250x case cover if anyone needs one :D

The 300ex has a neutral switch and reverse switch on the clutch cover, the 250x has only one switch.

You can eliminate those. If you chassis ground the wires that go to those switches it also bypasses the reverse limiter. ;) And, bypasses the annoying little switch on the clucth cable that gets dirty, or loose, then won't let you start it in anything but neutral.

Last one only thing missing is reverse gear shaft for 250x to hold gear in place.
