400ex shocks replaced by stock 450r shocks............yes, night and day difference. Stock 400 ex shocks absolutely suck, hard core!!!! :D

Right on! Do a search!! Go to the 400EX section and read the sticky there. It is over 100 pages!

IMO only use the 450R shocks after having them rebuilt by C&D to your weight and riding style. Colby has a way to extend the travel so these shocks are closer to the correct dimensions for the 400EX.
