so i adjusted my valves and put my stock exhaust back on. it took me a little bit to get it running but finally got it going with a 155 main. which confuses me because when i had the e-series full pipe on i was running a 155 and with the hmf a 165. anything below a 150 i couldnt get it to start and with the 150 couldnt get it to idle. it took it for a little ride and noticed it had some white smoke.after the ride i pulled the plug and the electrode itself was a nice tan/brown, but the tip of the plug was a gray/white. im just confused a 155 main is a little big for a stock exhaust and a k&n filter and i know the valves are not bad because the bike wouldn't be able to run and the ticking quieted down. i just want to know what you guys think about this?

Just a thought here, the main jet has VERY little to do with the ability to start and idle....what pilot jet and fuel screw turns are you running?

pilot jet i believe is stock fuel screw is 3.5 out and needle is 3rd notch, i put the 155 in and it ran fine and with the 150 it ran and idled for a couple minutes and died then wouldnt start afterward

It is my experience that a 5 point change on the main jet should not make a engine run or not run, unless is it already grossly lean or rich.

For example I ran a 175 main and changed all the way down to a 152 main and my 400EX ran really good with every main jet in between. Granted with the 175 main it was rich, but it still ran and ran pretty good. When I changed to the 152 main I gained about 5 HP. These changes were done on th dyno with an A/F sniffer attached.

I think you might have something else going on:
Air leak
Plugged carb
Float/fuel level problem

Otherwise I dunno??

Good luck

make sure your airboot is not coming off

its just weird the bike is running fine just a 155 see way to big for a stock exhaust. i dont know i might give it another shot at some smaller jets later on tonight

I belive the intake system has a greater effect on jetting than the exhaust...
