Girlfriend has 05 TRX 400 Ex. She is a good rider. We ride in rocky, rooty (sp?) NW trails. Want to upgrade her suspension.

Got some 450 shocks off ebay. Definately improved her ability to hit large bumps at high speed but otherwise ride quality decreased. Seems like the shocks are real stiff and dont soak up the little stuff - they just transmit the bump. Thought about revalve or respring to rider weight, but a few people have told me that is just the nature of that shock. I.e., that it was made for high speed quad racing and using it on the trail is not a good match.

What do you think? If I got new shocks for her I was leaning towards Elka's. I am a dirt bike guy but sure seems that quad people really like elka stuff. Also heard some mixed things about fox racing stuff. My budget is around 1100. What would you recommend. Thanks for your time

well i just recently upgraded mine and if i could have i would have got elkas cuz they are just so nice. i ended up getting floats cuz they were cheaper and man... thats the best thing i ever did to my bike. 700 bucks new and look insane, however you can get em' muddy and work em hard ans they will last... heres a few pics of mine installed. o yea i almost forgot they are nearly half the w8 of stock. and i suggest you send off rear shock and have revalved. or you will do this(after the first two pics) hope this all helps.. if not you can see some cool pics n e ways

link: this is a good link for any info.

That is not true! You can have those shocks set up however you want them. From what I hear our site sponsor C&D does very good work!

i inquired to gt and they stated to keep the r shocks(as opposed to the elkas i was looking at)because the elkas were preload adjust only.the r's are 3 way and for 740 you get the r's revalved/resprung along with the rear and the gt link too.
not too bad i think.

Motowoz! Or you can go and get the HydroDynamics and Ishock combination, comes with tie-rods, front shocks with piggyback rezzies, extended arms, brakelines etc..
