I was thinkin about getting some omf air scoops for my 05 400ex. Do they really keep the engine cooler or are they just for looks?

considering the 400ex is an air cooled motor every little bit helps, but you wont notice a difference at all, they are mainly for looks IMO. id still get em though, i think they look much better than having nothing up there.

I have a set on my 05 400EX and it seems to help a bit. I don't tend to feel the heat as much on the inside of my legs. They do help to channel the air to the front of the motor for better cooling. You won't notice any difference in performance though.

i built a set of my own with a little more angle to them then the ones ive seen and it helps a great deal.... it does channel air better twards the front of the motor.

in all honest opinion, they work.

I am looking to fabricate my own airscoops as well. I didnt want to pay $60+ for a piece of sheet metal with a few bends in it that I can do myself with all the machines I have at school. I just have to figure out how it hooks up using cardboard as a mock.

Post some pics when you figure it out. I'd like to see some home made ones. I feel the same way about spending the $60+ for something you can make for $10

will do, i'm going riding in about 45minutes so I wont be able to do it today. I need some pictures of people that have air scoops so I can figure out how they hook up and what they hook up to

I think OMF is the best looking scoops for a 400ex.
