What do you use to clamp the boots to your big carburetors, like 38 A/S and such?

The stock clamps don't fit.

Almost any normal hose-clamp for that diameter is 1/2 inch wide, which is just hair too wide to fit between the gooves on the boot. It's not the end of the world, it's probably what most people use, but little things like that always irk me. The right tool for the right job, that's how I like to play it.

You can get thinner 5/16 hose clamps that are about the same width as stock, but they only come in small diameters. You would need to chain a few together to get large enough to fit.

What are you guys using? Are you just using 1/2 inch wide hose clamps? Have you discovered a better solution?

I use OEM Honda CR250 airboot clamps. They are made for the 38mm carbs. Like you, I hate the Home Depo look of hose clamps.

Hmm, I'll have to look into that.

I don't mind the "Home Depot" look of standard hose clamps, as long as they actually FIT. I don't want close, I want exact.

I found some hose clamps that actually fit, stainless steel so they won't rust, but I would have to order directly from the manufacturer, in quantities of like 250 pieces. I don't need 250 pieces, I only need 2. I'm trying to find them through a distributor.

Have you checked www.mcmaster.com yet Wilkin? I poked around there real quick and it looks like they have SS hose clamps with several different band widths, the smallest being 5/16. They're not cheap, but at least you don't have to buy 250.

That was the FIRST place I looked. They have 5/16 width clamps all the way up to 2 1/2 inch diameter. This would work to mount the carb to the reed cage (2 1/4 inch), but it doesn't work for the air boot on the large side of the carb (2 3/4 inch).

I use the regular hose clamps from the hardware stores.... the OEM ones look like ***** anyways, and aren't near as reliable... it sucks having one of those break mid race..and torching your engine..

ESR carries the right clamps! They are made in Germany..

If you use the fat auto zone clamps you might have a air leak!
