I was told it is an 88 but I want to see it to believe. I know there are gusseting differences aswell as locations of the vin stamping. Unable to do a search on vin because it is too short. Please tell me how to decode. Thanks
- While at it... will all R parts interchange? I know there is a difference in swingarms but do they all fit? Thanks for all help.

i mean when i use the search engine..."vin" is only 3 characters so it wont search for any topics containing the word "vin"

86&87 have the vin on the lefthand side above the swingarm mount hole , 88&89 have the vin inbetween the top front bumper holes . Hope this helps.

hows the rear motor mount mount up? All of them will besides the front motor mounts on the 86's and possibly 87's. They will not work on the 88-89. The grab bars mount different on the 86-87 vs the 88-89. 88-89 mounts the same as the 04-05 450r. The seats and seat mounts are also different from what I hear between the 86-87 and 88-89

it has already been modified for a 350x, which is what iam doing with it so i dont know about the rear motor mount. what about swingarms? my vin stamp is in the center of the shock tower. is there a letter or number that would define whether it is either 88 or 89? thanks for all responses.

If you've established that it's an 88+ model frame it doesn't matter if it's an 88 or 89 because they are virtually identical except for a couple bolt holes for the heel gaurds.

Also, all the problems of stuff not matching between 86/87 frames and 88/89 frames is irrelevant if it has a 350x motor in it.

86-87 swingarm has the rear mount that mounts in the swingarm with the pivot bolt goes through the swingarm. The 88-89 swingarm is solid with no opening for the swingarm mount and the 88-89 is 1" shorter than 86-87 stock for stock
