View Full Version : Drg Piston And Porting Ride Test

TURBO-530R

Well I had Chad do one of his Pro port jobs on my head and with that I installed one of his New DRG Pistons in my motor.
Well all I can say is WOW!
I can say this is the best combo I have had since I ran the 530 set up. I can't wait to test it on the Dyno.I was putting 5-7 bikes on the same people I raced at the last
Event.
I took 4 1st places in 4 classes with the Drg piston/porting
And a 2nd in the other class missed shift but that is racing.
Best time was 6.3 in 500 ft on dirt

Thanks Chad

Jim
Ps if there any non believers out there Brian from WPP stopped by while he was doing some testing on his Pipe combo and coil
Good to see Brian again.
:D :D :D :D

that is good to hear. what compression are you running? how much was the whole setup?

what else is done with that motor, and exhaust, and intake. thats extremely impressive on dirt, my friends yfz runs like a 9.4 (or something i cant remember) on a 500ft dirt race.

What if any detectable differences were seen compared to the previous JE 15:1? And were the valves +1 before?

the new piston is the final revision.

The new piston has the following changes:

scavenging channels
reduction of lateral gas porting from 8 ports to four ports
increase of exhaust valve cutout to accomadate +1mm exhaust valves

I was referring to how the two performed on Jims' machine(seat of pants comparison) and if his head had +1 valves prior to this.

My prior head did not have +1 valves and had a port job but unknown who did it got motor from eBay and head was on it I think the piston was 14 to 1 the difference was amazing I dropped my time from 7.0-7.1 down to 6.3-6-5 with Chad’s Piston and Porting and it pulls like a freight train. Jim

at what point do you need to put oversized valves in? ihave heard most builds dont need them.

just FYI:

over sizing the exhaust helps for top end by allowing more exhaust flow in relation to the intake flow.

its the intake to exhaust ratio what determines where the power curve will be tuned to... the +1mm helps bias the power curve more toward the top end when the ratio of intake to exhaust is smaller- meaning the exhaust flow is closer to the intake flow.... i said closer not the same...

DRG 15:1 stock bore piston
DRG porting with +1 exhaust
Web 493 cam
AMR MONSTER ignition coil
Rage / Dasa Exhaust
DASA 43mm Fcr carb
185 main 45 pilot needle 3clip from bottom
Dasa Filter setup
C-16 VP fuel
+6 inch swing arm
14/34 gearing

I talked to TURBO-530R,...he is gonna replace the +6 swinger and retest to recover the power loss with going with a longer swinger... the longer the swinger the larger the power loss to the wheels through the drive train...
