i just ordered my piston.
i got a 10:1 one.

im wondering how my motor will run with that piston, a stage one hotcam, and a uni filter, with no lid, and a STOCK exhaust. i do plan on getting a full system, but im waiting for that cheap moment on ebay.

how will that motor run with a stage 2 cam also?
which should i pop for? i DO plan on a exhaust before november, and plan on snow rideing. i ride mostly trails, but have a real bad itch to get more into track rideing.
thanks for oppinions.

it'll run good with that but 10:1 is stock so i dont know if you will feel any huge gains. on the other hand if you get the hotcams stg. 1 you probably will, especially once you get the exhaust. i wouldn't get a stg. 2 unless your going 416 or bigger (at least thats what poeple have told me). hope that helps.

what is required to do a 406? can you just put anew sleeve in or what?

o crap.... diddnt se it was a 406, on that note you probably will feel some gains even with stock compression.

New sleeve isn't neccessary but the cylinder will need to be bored & honed to match the new piston.

I belive stock compression is 9.1:1 so wth the 10:1 piston and cam you should notice an increase. The 9cc bigger cylinder volume by itself will hardly be noticable.

i'm confused what honed means... is that resurfacing the cylinder walls?

yes bored is the cutting of the cylinder walls to make a larger diameter and honing just cleans up/resurfaces the cylinder walls.

Yep. Honing puts a cross-hatching on the cyl. walls so when you put in a new piston the rings will seal better after your break-in time.;)

how much does it cost for a 406? like total build with the cam, gaskets, piston and boring/honing?

total cost to do the 406 with a cam is right in the 400 range.
im getting my head redone also tho, with new valve guedes and with mild proting and some titanium valve springs, so im looking for around grand total for mine.

yes stock compression is 9:0-1

so stay with my first choice of a stage one?

you technically dont have to resleeve untill you bore ove .120.... thats a 426 i believe. a 406 is only .40 over.

how much does just porting cost? I have seen adds from major companies boasting a 5+HP with just porting. If thats so then port and polish is the way to go if its under $350. I want to keep basically the same reliablity of my stock motor but have more performance like adding pipes, jets, air filter do not risk your engine unless you jet completely wrong. Big bore 440 deffinately make your engine less reliable but crazy fast

if its stock bore id suggest going higher compression, and bigger cam. you will notice a lot of power difference from stock. without sacrificing reliability.

yeah the only thing that scares me though is that i have seen 2 bad things happen to a motor from high compression piston and stage 1 hotcam. I'm sre it was because the cam timing was off or the cam chain came loose. On my brothers quad 1st time the cam chain snapped and tore apart the inside of the motor, had to get a new right side i think... everything was fine then...2nd time the valve broke off and went through the piston. I want the performance but don't want my motor blowing or anything like that.
