the track changes alot from lap to lap and you do rely on spectators for help. i hope they didn't know what they were doing purposely

Keep in mind, there has been at least 4 hours of racing on that track. Anyone who has ever raced a GNCC knows the course gets blown out and multiple lines develop...... You end up losing track of the originals, especially when spectators are pointing a certain way. You end up relying on them.

I don't know what happened.....but I can guarantee you Borich wouldn't purposely cut the course. Anyone that suggests otherwise is a fool.

I wasn't there either, but when you read at the 10.2 mile marker that Ballance is in the lead with Borich on his butt, then at the 12 mile marker that Borich has a 15 sec lead, that is one heck of a alternate route. That's not a different line, that's another direction. 15 sec in less then 2 miles is a huge gap to build up between these pros. And I would not be suprised if that was the section that was protested.

I would not call him a cheater and he does not deserve that to be even in the same sentance with him. I'm sure he was all caught up in the moment trying to do anything to pass. Saw people showing him what he most likely thought was a alternat line. He had to make a split sec dicision and he made it. But I'm sure once he was down that line, he knew it was more then a alternate line. But by then it was to late. He most likely knew he would of lost more positions if he turned back around and he took his chances to see what would happen at the finish.:(

First of all let me say that I want Bill to win the Championship. That being said, I do NOT believe that Chris cheated in any way. Maybe a spectator did send him in the wrong direction or he used a little bad judgement. It happens. I believe Bill and Chris were docked positions a few years ago in Virginia for something similiar and that allowed Brian Cook to get his first win.......It happens. I dont believe either racer would have cheated either way, I am not picking sides on the subject but I know most everyone including myself getting involved in this topic has been a racer in a gncc race. It is so easy to look for spectator help in a rough spot and when clipping thru the trees and dust trying to win the championship this mistake could have happened to any racer out there!!.. I have personal raced agianst borich at a more local events and he took the time to talk with me like a normal person very professional and down to earth the same with his dad!!.. I have never got to speak one on one with with bill but would expect the same from him.. Bottom line is someone made a mistake!! and now we all have to wait and see what will happen remember anything can happen at anytime anywhere..

Ok very true I have never known Chris to cheat in anyway either and it very well might have been bad judgment. i would say bill protested, he protested houston at big buck when he won cause he didn't pit on the same lap with him.. they were all to pieces about mikes gas mileage last year, when mike ran a stock motor, so if ya beat bill you must have cheated.. sad but true...

The way this whole thing went down just seems shady to me.

It just seems ironic to me that many other racers were witnessed taking the same line that Borich was pointed to, but nobody else was penalized. Then, to be penalized 2 places???????? Is there something in the rulebook that outlines the severity of the penalty? Or, is it just randomly pullout out of a hat.....or some other darker, lower, less pleasant place?

Found this in the rulebook:
7. Riders encountering a traffic jam or bottleneck may go more than 25 feet off the course to get around the bottleneck only. However, the rider must re-enter the course as soon as possible, and upon approaching this section the next lap, must ride the original arrowed section if the track is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the rider must stay on the original marked course. A "bottleneck" is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason, with the exception of check points.

The tape apparently shows spectators jumping in front of Borich yelling to him that there was a bottleneck.....then pointing him to the line he took.

what the hell happened ??? I was chilling on this site and getting my race fix, Borich won I got on my quad and rode for 4 hours got some food hung out with some buddys and come home and holy crap !!!
I am straight up confused ?! So they are saying Borich cheated well I seen him pass me like I was going in reverse and I can tell you one thing He does not need to cheat. I am not sure how many other people here actually race any kind of XC races but when a spectator points you in a direction I find it is usually the best move for you ,how many othr racers used that same line ?? I honestly think Chris got cheated and that my friends is just sad :( .

Really it was only 1 place !!! He was in 2nd when he made the mistake. Its not a penalty if it don't cost you more then you gained.

im not taking sides, because I like both of the guys, Have no beef with either one of them what so ever. They are both great racers and both deserve this championship. But even if they gave chris the win. Chances are Bill would of won it at Ironman. He hasnt been off the podium all year. It would of took a hell of a race to push Bill back. Im sure it could of been done, but very doubtful. All this argueing needs to stop. There is no point to this non-sense. It was obvisously an awesome race, but sometimes on mistake can cost you. Look at Jenks and Mcgill. Since Jenks is a hometown racer, I will support him, sucks he has had bad look. But Im not going to dis-own him because of it. Next year I cant wait to see Mcgill and freshman brandon on the line. Its going to be intense. Now will everyone stop argueing about this, Whats done is done.
