well of the numerous qusestions on the subject this is my first, so on the kfx i love the low end for trail perfomance of it so im wanting to keep that yet i want somethin a little faster for the pavement and keep the 20' tires (stock and aftermarket) so which sprocket should i change? front or back (i mainly ask front or back because of a costly stripped shaft that my R suffered earlier this year when i only changed the front one) , what tooth, what other model could i order it for? thanks

One up in the front is about equal to 3 down in the back. IMO the bike needs a 15 tooth front sprocket. The stock front sprocket is a 14. I have a renthall 15 tooth front sprocket that is made for the KFX450 quad. There are other companies that have the right sprocket for the KFX450 too.

ok so if my preference is to go with a smaller rear sprocket would that work the same? what size? and i could just order one for a kfx/z 400 and itll fit? oh before i forget im thinkin of a good chain as well, how about those primary drive or rk chains? i asked cause im wantin to try somethin new with an x ring chain and their prices arent so bad.

thanks

tell us more about the stripped shaft, was it the countershaft that stripped and why did it happen? mainly because I am about to install a 15 tooth countershaft sprocket and dont want to break something.

you got it, ok for awhile ive had a 13t front on my 04 450r and in june my brother was going uphill and the front sprocket and the part that holds it on both stripped, then when we take it to the dealer and he said and quote "honda may pay for it those shafts just arent supposed to strip like that" which i didnt expect them to (because they got poor customer service that can go to he** anyway) so $700 later we got it fixed the right way for nothing as it sits in my garage waiting to be sold to make money back for the kfx so i can mod it a little but its sad when we live in a world where a dude cant sale somehtin because everybody thinks everyone else is out to get them. so im gettin a rear sprocket for the kfx and i just need to know what size/model.

I read a thread on another site where a guy tested a few sprocket combos. he ended up liking the stock front with a 34t rear from sprocket specialists.

I remember PCAmerica using one from a honda 400 but he needed to use the bolts also cause they were tappered or something like that.

ok, after a few weeks of messing around with the fasstco people for my bar inserts, i thought id call c&d and get the inserts and 36t sprocket a little cheaper and quicker now when it comes how do i get it on, i know the sprocket just bolts on and off but what about the chain? does it have a master link or is there one i just didnt see? if i just break it can i get a link at a dealer to put on it? or would it just be easier to loosen it and switch sprockets?

thanks for any tips

it has a master link but take care my master was the tightest one I ever used and the chain is an EK brand so new master links are not as easy to find.
