i just installed a 450r carb on my 416ex i got the plug to the correct color but when i start it it idles really high then spits and spudders and dies if i keep it idleing high it will stay running, when i drive it around it works great but pops a little on deceleration i was wondering what i should do i was thinking going down on the pilot jet size to get it to idle but im not sure
my mods are:
416 11:1
hot cam stage 2
open airbox with k&n filter
full system LRD exhaust

Any help will be greatly appreciated

How is it jetted now?

I'd start with a 50 pilot and a 175 main, needle on the 4th notch

I agree with ZR with the exception of the pilot, the stock 48 pilot should work fine.

i've got a 52 pilot and a 180 main needle on the 3rd notch i think and a/f out 3 turns and it's got no sign of running rich i do live in new brunswick canada so im not that far above sea level so it could be different from u guys

A 52 pilot and still three turns! WOW! Are you sure you don't have an air leak some where? High idle makes me think air leak.

Did you adjust the idle speed screw?

Hows the throttle response? 52 pilot sounds high..

I ran a 50 pilot and 195 main at sea level, but my engine has a few more mods.

I'm pretty sure i don't have an air leak i checked it all over and made sure everything was sealed up and if i adjust the idle speed it wil either idle high or idle almost right then studder and die i have a 48 and 50 pilot coming today and a few other main jets so i'm gonna mess around with it tonight and see what happens

Is the carb new or used?

Yea it sounds like the pilot is a lil lean. I had the same problem when I was getting mine set right after I installed it. At the moment Im at a 50 pilot with 3 turns out but thats with the stock piston and a hotcam stg 1, no lid and pipe.I would think that your 52/180 setup oughta be just about right, guess im wrong tho. Hope you get it right, Im planning on going 416 soon and need a good baseline to start with.
