PRM belly pan .190 and PRM Z-plate swingarm skid plate .25

Thats all you need, no need for a-arm skid plates.

Get a PRM belly skid (.190) and a swingarm skid (.250). Also look into a desert grab bar and a bumper.

the armadillo is just as good, quite a bit less costly, but not as pretty as prm...and since it is on the bottom of the bike and hopefully, nobody sees them after the take the beating to protect you quad...who really cares how they look...
i am suggesting this because i know you are kind of on a budget and would like to get as much as you can for the $$ you have...

I'll agree on the Armadillo. I put one on my 400ex and I ride in the creek with it every Sunday. It takes a beating in the rocks since the 400 sits so low. The bottom of it looks like hammered he!! but it has not bent yet.

PRM is definitely the best way to go although I happen to think the .25" swingarm skid is overkill. The .190" one is all you really need. Either way.

Ya my .190 is great. Awesome protection. PRM all the way:devil:

the .250 is not overkill, it is the minimum i would go with...i had 2 different .190 skids on my 300ex and 2 different .190 ones on my 400ex...all 4 bent and after 2 or 3 times out, i was constantly bending them down from the rotor and chain...after i switched to the .250, i never had to bend either back...i never tried a .190 on the 450r because i had learned my lesson

I have the PRM swing arm and engine skid plates. How can I tell what thickness they are? use a micrometer?

10-11-2007, 03:44 PM
you can mic them, but i go buy the thickness that i ordered...most chassis skids are only .190, they don't really need to be any thicker. it is the swinger skid that need the .250 thickness

yeah mine were already on my quad when i bought it. They make my 400ex seem much heavier than most but its ok with me knowing that i have protection on my major areas on i can watercross :) get the swingarm skid plate and full engine skid plate and when you do around 50mph+ you skim right across the water. its fun as long as you dont turn the bars r lean to a side
