Does anyone know how to tell a John Deere Trailfire 440 snowmobile from a 340 snowmobile? Skatrdude20 nd me just picked one up for $20. Hasnt been ran in years. But is in good condition. When we found it in an old garage it was covered. No cracks in the body or nothing. But ya does anyone know how to tell?

My friend had a John Deere sled. It was a 340 I believe.:)

should be a tag on the side of the sled down below the seat.

You can tell by the serial number on the sled .

A 440 is 285001 -

A 340 should start with a 1******* -

They made many different model 340s .... 340 specials , LX, Canadian models , etc.

Here's a website for you to look up the parts... we use this at work to find JD parts.
http://www.deere.com/en_US/parts/partsinfo/landingpage.html

Then click on " Look up info/order parts"

Then a screen will pop up asking for a user name ... just under that there's a link that says " John Deere Parts Catalogue" .... click that.

Then type in "Trailfire" or whatever model of JD you're looking for.

Click on " Alphabetical Search" and go to whatever it is you're looking for . So if it's an Engine , click on "E" ... brakes click on "B"

Sounds confusing , but it's actually very simple to do.

Hope this helps.
