250R questions

1.what are some of the differences between the 86-87 R's and the 88-89R's.

2. I am currently looking at buying an 87 with a 310 big bore kit and im not to sure about any if at all problems with that year.

3. what are some good mods to take care of right off the bat.

I dont think there is a "bad" year for the R, at least nothing comes to my mind. Honda tweaked little things here and there each year, so 89 would be considered the best, but nothing to make you stay away from an 86, unless you are stricly mx, then you might want an 88+...

the 88+ Rs have a slightly different frame engine mounts and a 1" shorter, aluminum, swingarm. The headlight was moved from the handle bars to the hood.
87 and up motors have a longer rod
