I am going to race MX and I'm torn between trying to buy shocks and do a 416 build this Christmas, or spend the money I'm saving now and whatever I get for Christmas on a nice front end.

I love how a after market handling quad handles, yet I LOVE the rush of a built 400 screaming at WOT.

The thing is I know that handling should come first and it does But I'm afraid without that little extra power boost I'll get murdered by some of the 450rs that will be in the mix and the other built 400's. And please don't tell me to get a 450.

I already have the mods in my signature.

Suspension will make you faster overall. Just remember that speed in the corners is more important that speed in the straights. You can carry just as much momentum into a corner on a suspended 400ex as you can a suspended 450.

Aftermarket shocks without a doubt.

try to get front and rear suspension. suspension is the best thing you can do for speed, and i think it helps build confidence. being wider helps in turns, a rear shock helps in woops and if you have front and rear suspension you wont get beaten up/tired as quickly.

get suspension

Deff the suspension. The weakest part I'd say on a 400ex is the stock suspension, compared to 450's.

Why make more power if you suspension cant handle it ?

Anyone who says power over suspension has no idea what they're talking about and have obviously never ridden hard on any trails or track.

Definitely suspension. A piped 400 with awesome suspension will be able to keep up on a track as long as the rider is decent.

Suspension, abso-freakin-lutely.

There is no point in having a powerhouse of a bike, if the suspension can't keep up.

Alright I think I've made my decision! Although i kinda already knew the answer before i made this thread..

I'm going to get TCS triple rate w/remote resouvoirs with some plus 3 or possibly plus 2 a arms.

And next year or w/e I get a chance I'll go to a track and ask some guy on a 450r to ride with me and see if i can stick with him, as long as he's in my skill range.

im with the others. a friend of mine that races d34 had a 400ex with a sparks pipe, jets, air filter, and a stage 1 cam. he had good suspention and stuck with 450s very well.
