View Full Version : best way to widen rear?

I just installed a set of +2 A arms on our eton viper..I had wheel spacers on the front wheels and was just going to transfer them to the rear but they have too large an outer diameter to fit inside our eton vipers rear wheels.....So what is the easiest/cheapest option for me to widen the rear to match?..Can this be done by getting rims with more offset?...I need to gain about 3-4 inches.

After looking at some aftermarket rims it looks like the biggest offset is about a 5-3 on an 8 inch rim..The eton rims are centered 4+4 I would assume..So i'm thinking the 5 inch offset on the rims alone will only get me about an extra 2 inches?

Will the spacers you have fit into the new rims?

Before opening this thread, I would have suggested "Marry her!"

But now that I see you are talking about the quad, spacers are going to be the cheapest and easiest, but that puts more strain on the axle (been there, done that)
Offset rims or extended axle are the better way to go.

Not sure what you want to spend but Kyle's quad's coming apart Nov. 1st and the rear end on it is 44" wide. I could make you a deal on it. It's got a +4 dur-a-blue with 2.5" wheel spacers.

Ok guys I did some more measuring..My front end is now 39 inches wide..The rear is 34 1/2..So I would need to widen the rear by roughly 5 inches..Should I try to match the front and rear widths exactly or is one end better slightly wider than the other?

I checked the stock rear rims and they are 7 inches wide with an even 3 1/2 inch spacing...The opening in the wheel where the spacer fits into (not to be confused with the hole that the hub goes through) is about 5 1/2 inches across..I don't know if this is typical for aftermarket wheels or not?

Etondaddy could you shoot me a pm with more info and pricing..It looks like either the axle or the spacers would be just about right.

Most of the riders I see here in FL have a slightly narrower rear axle width..

Durablue makes a +4....

Wheel offset could help a little too

If you can get 2" from the wheels and 1-2" from spacers you would be where you want to be, but axle bending may become an issue

Wide rims may lead to the need for wider tires.....

Will your Eton pull the extra weight around

The eton has 9 inch wide maxxis tires stock so I think we are fine width wise for most rims..

I'm not sure what you mean by the extra wieght?...I 'm assuming you mean the spacers and the wider rims/tires?....Like I said we are already running the wide tires and if I do switch to a wider rim it will be aluminium and should be lighter than our stock steel rims..Hopefully the lighter wieght will even offset some of the spacer wieght if we decide to use them.
