Welding Flash Question.

Alright we have a torch that you can hook up MAPP gas and OXY to. You are able to get a neutral flame and can kind of weld with it.

So the question is i know you need a #5 shade for oxy acetylene welding but they seem like sun glasses, so would a pair of sunglasses work with the mapp gass oxy torch ? I have shields for the MIG welder but their like #10 so i can't even see the flame with it on.

When I went to college for welding classes, I don't even remember useing a numbered shade for oxy-acetylene welding, so sunglasses wouldn't hurt anything. All I do now is MIG...

Our school had goggles specifically for OXY/Acetylene welding. I would say sunglasses would be a little weak for welding. You could try out using a pair of sunglasses as I know some are darker than others. If it's too bright though ditch them and go back to the goggles. It's not worth ruining your eyes over just so you look cool while burning yourself.;)
