Get Well Soon Dylan!

As many of you may have heard by now, #007 Dylan Mercure was seriously injured at the Onsted TT race this weekend and was flown to the UofM hospital for immediate treatment. Dylan’s already undergone the first of many surgeries and has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Below is an open letter from the Mercure Family also. Get well soon Dylan and everyone in the District has you in their thoughts!

As some of you may know Dylan was involved in a crash during his race on Sunday. He has suffered a very serious leg injury. He was flown in by Med Flight to U Of M Children Mott Hospital. He underwent surgery yesterday to fix a torn Tendon, Vascular & Nerve damage and the broken bone.

He has a severed Artery, Nerve and Muscle. The Muscle being the major problem. From the aspect of long term disability we are uncertain what will happen. He will undergo another surgery possibly today, maybe tomorrow. They were not able to close the wound due to the damage of the skin and tissue.

We do have access to email in our room and our phone number is 734-763-9441. We do also have our cell phones. His room number is 6686-2.

Any prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Love,

The Mercures

Just to drop a quick note to those that don't know, Dylan will have a 2nd surgery on Tuesday October 9th to see if any more damage needs to be fixed and to clean the wound out. Hopefully the skin has stretched enough (with the cool new vacuum machine they have on it) to close the wound up. If not he will have to have more surgery. The main concern is still the severed muscle. We will not know if it will heal or not. We will only be able to tell in time if & what will happen with the muscle. We can cross that bridge when we get to it. I will let everyone know what happens tomorrow and where we stand with everything. He is managing his pain with a morphine pump, which is working great.

I wanted to thank everyone for their support and calls. Dylan really loved all the visitors he had today. I think it lifted up his spirits a lot.

Again, I thank all of you for everything.

Love,

The Mercures

Here is the newest update

> Surgery today went as well as we had hoped for. The Dr's said
everything was clean and they did not have to debreed or cut any dead tissue
out. As for the severed muscle, they said it looked healthy. They
said usually they have to cut dead tissue away on injuries like this and
they did not have to do that today. So that is good hope for us. They
still have not located the severed artery or nerve and said it would be
more harm to keep looking or finding it and trying to fix. So he will
never have feeling on the top of his foot, which is ok, because it does
not affect the function of the foot. Only time will tell if Dylan's
body will heal from such a trauma and if the muscle will accept joining
together and start rebuilding. Again, his age is a crucial factor for
healing.
>
> As for the wound itself, they were unable to close it. It is about
the size of a half dollar and it will stay open and heal from the
inside out. They were going to do a skin graph but where the open area was
on top of the severed muscle and they did not want disturb the muscle in
any way. It should take about a month or so for healing of the wound.
He will not be in cast, due to the open wound, but rather a special
brace that is being made by the Ortho Drs so we can clean and sterilize
the wound daily and still keep the leg immobilized. Our next battle
will be infections. He started running a fever Monday nite, but Dr's
don't think it's infection at this time.
>
> We still don't have a clear indication when he may be released, but
we are hoping within the next week or so. Physical Therapy will
probably start within the next few days.
>
> We will keep everyone updated as much as we can. Again, thanks to
all of you for everything.

Great news! I thought I would share with all of you and again Thank You for all of your prayers and support!!

Hey everyone, Dylan is doing much better and possibly coming home today!!! He definitely has his attitude back and becoming the lovely Dylan we all know & sometimes love.

Physical Therapy is today and his wheelchair was delivered yesterday and I think were "rolling"(get it!HA HA). As soon as I get more info I will pass it on to all of you.

A lot of you are asking about sending things to him. It would be
better to send things directly to the house-10177 Songbird Lane, Pinckney, MI 48169. He loves getting cards and of course gifts.

Again all of your support and prayers have been a life saver for Tommy & me. We are so thankful to have friends and family like we do.

Love,

The Mercures

Ive had a wound that took 6 months to close.. Its a real drag and its a slow process, but I have a feeling these set backs will only be temporary for you ;)
We all wish you the best and full recovery.
Good to hear things are looking brighter :)
