Why not synthetic. it's better.

If you insist on non synthetic, go get some Shell Rotella.

what is your suggestion on synthetic

Shell Rotella from Wally World
It's inexpensive and that leads to more frequent oil changes - the best thing for any engine.

so shell rotella 20w-50 is the best for the 250

Best for the price. If it was a 450 or other high performance engine, I would probably go synthetic, Amsoil, or some other high performance oil.

what do you recommend like every 5 tanks for a oil change

I am changing it every three rides, about every 10 hours

Right on the money with this one.

Shell makes a Synthetic Rotella as well, but it is not a "true" synthetic. I could explain what that means, but it is beyond the scope of this forum...

I wouldn't go with 20w-50 except in summer or if you live in a warm climate. You would be better off with 10w-40 in the winter months. 4-5 tanks of fuel to every oil change sounds about right to me unless you are racing or riding hard for very long periods at a time.

Any oil will work fine...synthetic or otherwise... as long as it does not contain friction modifiers. Friction modifiers will shorten the life of your clutches and cause slippage. The rotella would get my vote as well though. You can pick the stuff up at any walmart or even truck stops. They even sell it in larger gallon jugs.

I always buy the Rotella in gallon jugs. It makes it that much harder to put off changing my oil, as I always have some around.
Heck, I started using it in my gasoline Ram 1500!

ya that vr1 has friction modifiers
so im gonna go rotella at wally world

Its worth getting sythetic but w/e do what you want. And when to change it just look to see when the oil gets a darker brown. Changing the oil every 10 hours is rediculous unless you had a 450r and raced.

most everyone knows this but the 250ex doesnt have an oil filter so i change the oil a lot more than it needs just for that fact.

i use mobil1 full sync 10-40

the high miles oil red label

The metal filter screen is internal. I can't remember where but it isn't something that needs to be changed or cleaned very often. I would have preferred that honda put a typical filter that can be changed or at least cleaned and re-used but the design seems to work. Even without proper filtration the 250ex's are nearly bulletproof so I can't complain. It does make for a cheaper oil change.
