I am in the last stages of building my 400EX...I did the 416 kit, stage 1 hotcams, high compression piston, ported and polished head, and some cheap carb. mods and a white brothers E series exhaust...And I'm, just wondering how i will stack up with other stock and modded fourwheelers such as...V-Force 700, Predator 500, Raptor 660 & 700, Yamaha and honda 450...etc...

Thanks...

90% rider 10% machine

In a drag if you can hold the throttle wide open its 100% machine. I think you may be close to those quads but you are not going to beat any of them good. If you are racing mx or cross country it comes down to if you are better than the other guy

a good start can also make all the difference though

I have raced modded 400ex on my stock 400ex and won. It depends on your tak off, and where in the RPMs you shift. I can run with a stock banshee if I rev it all out. It is mostly rider unless you could hook up a machine for the throttle to hit them at the same time and shift at the same time then its machine.

I raced organized in a scramble this past weekend in a class where there was only 3 other 400cc bikes in a class of about 15 and everyone else rode 450s. I almost got the holeshot and started in 3rd, and that's where I finished. Rider skill is more important than horsepower

X2. also the holeshot decides most of it too.

yea your wrong. shifting starting and so much more are up to the person. 90%rider and 10% quad.

race a few of these quads you listed and let us know how it goes. i had a 2005 predator with a hmf pipe, clamp on k&n and cdi. i raced a 426ex with a pipe and k&n and beat him bad. as far as i know though everything else was stock. if both riders are experienced, i would say drag racing is where you will see which quad is faster. when it comes to cross country or motorcross it is more about the rider than the quad.

even in a drag race the pilot can make or break the quad

two of my friends one on a 06 700rappy 100% stock
the other 01 416 pipe/filter cam

the 416 pulled the rappy by 2 1/2 lengths in 300' (many times)

but they trade quads and the raptor wins by 6+

thats around 9 lengths with just changing riders
drag racing and hole shots are more rider than your giving credit

if your talking about the clowns that race 2 or 3 miles and who ever has highest gearing wins then that is 99% atv - 1% rider

i totally agree with you. we drag race a 600 foot drag in my yard. my younger brother can beat me on any quad anytime. up to 300 feet, only then if i am riding a much faster quad can i pass him.

as long as the riders have equal experience you should be able to switch and get the same results.

if they are not though there is no question that the launch and shifting has a ton to do with the outcome.

i no longer have my predator. i am currently building a 440ex with all the goods. i am hoping it will be close to as fast as my brothers piped and filtered predator if not beat it. i will definately post the results of my build and our racing in a week or two.

I didn't want to go too off topic here, but reading this reminded me of some drag racing at Haspin Acres. I'm sure you guys will get a laugh out of it. (it's a google video)
