If your just looking for a wireless router for you home internet will run anywhere from $50 to $100+ depending on the quality. If youre looking for a broadband card from a provider such as sprint, check this out

That's not how it works. You have two different things going on, and you are confusing them as one.

Wi-Fi is used to set up a "network", connecting one computer to another. You can share files, drives, play games. The computers talk to each other.

If one of these computers has an internet connection, you can use that "network" to share the internet connection, both computers can use it.

The Wi-Fi isn't used to connect to the internet, it's used to connect to another computer.

For reasons that get really complicated, you don't actually connect one computer to another directly. You use a third piece of equpiment called a "Router", and the connections can be actual cables, or the connections can be wireless. All connections go through the Router.

Here is where it get's really convenient for you. You actually plug your internet connection into your router, and your router allows all the computers on your network to share that connection (even if you network is only one computer).

You usually have to pay for your internet connection, obviously. You buy the equipment for the router, and broadcast that wireless connection all throughout your house, so you can use it anywhere without needing a cable. It comes with it's own security encryption that keeps your neihbors from using your internet connection.

As far as doing it the simplest way, call a Internet Service Provider (ISP) in your area, because alot of them come with packaged deals where they will include a wireless router in with your service. Verizon does this I know for a fact. Im not saying the routers they give ya are the highest quality or anything but thats what I did and I really havent had any problems with my router at all (Knock on wood) and they make it very easy to set up. I work in an IT department can could put in a new linksys if the need be but if the one they gave me works good and there isnt no need to change it then....

You can leave the router open without comprimizing your PC's security. You jsut have to set the network up correctly.

Breaking into an encrypted router is easy as pie anyway. Any competent hacker can get through that in less than 5 minutes. Never depend on that for security.

Locking them out, though, does help to keep honest people honest. ;) Besides if they are doing illegal downloading (child porn, hacking into microsoft, etc.) it's going through your router. aka - they are using your IP address. Probably not a good thing. ;)
