He has some pretty strong opinion son it, some good some bad but overall he likes it alot. It fits him extremely well.

I reckon I will have to make some calls and get it into XC trim before next week:scary:

Glad to see he likes it, so what happens to the 90 now?

Pappy
10-05-2007, 05:24 PM
We havent decided what will happen to the 90, my youngest son wants to race but I would prefer him on an automatic 2 stroke.

Cody will just plain destroy any mini he is on so the move to the 300cc/250cc youth production is only logical.

I would say break in is now complete

Ghost-Rider
10-05-2007, 05:41 PM
Mini 2 stroke eh? Not thinking of a Cobra are ya ?

Pappy
10-05-2007, 05:49 PM
Cobra..no, we like to ride not wrench

Power wise he said it feels close to the 300ex, but snappier probably due to the weight difference. Handling is better, stock suspension is better and ergo's are better. Thats just his opinion, and he needs more time on it

ryan likes just about anything, but he hasnt ever really gotten back in the groove after a horrid wreck a few years ago. he wants to race xc badly but we keep trying to tell him he has to practice and until I feel he is ready he wont be doing any nationals:p funny part is, he has more athletic ability naturally then cody, the difference being cody will train and work towards his goal where ryan just wants to go out and do it. if the outcome did not have potential injury i wouldnt mind it:)

Just how bad was the crash ? :ermm:

And i can see what your saying about having to work towards a goal. But i'm sure every racer wished they could just hop on the quad and go race lol :macho

Cody repeated after his first few rides that it's "Zippy"...and after taking it out myself i would agree. Nimble, zips through the tree's and the tranny is straight butter. Power is smooth from bottom to top although IMO a stock 300ex would edge it in an all out drag race.

Installed a kill switch (easiest quad to work on Ive seen ) and removed the headlights. More seat time coming up

Ghost-Rider
10-06-2007, 10:49 AM
So is it a manual clutch or auto clutch ?

Pappy

manual clutch 5 speed

read all about it:p

Pappy

Well. he just put in 45 minutes in the woods on it. I will ask him and let him reply on his thoughts....

How did you like the 250 in the woods?
The power was very smooth off the bottom and in the mid range. It handles very much like the YFZ450.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2053/1497929381_8b9c79a820_b.jpg

How is the stock suspension?
Very plush and smooth. We dont have a lot of rough track here but it did well on everything we have.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2202/1498813096_f79b007015_b.jpg

Is it tippy?
It's very stable but yes, on rutted off cambers it was tippy. Maybe aftermarket tires and a slightly wider stance will help.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/195/1498816744_f417fdaa58_b.jpg

Pappy
10-06-2007, 11:59 AM
Fun factor...1-10 with 10 being a blast to ride?

Do to the narrow stance, I would say a 9.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2334/1497989131_592ec1fd10_b.jpg

You keep saying tippy, is this a big problem?
Not huge, just on rutted offcambers did I notice it, every where else it felt really good

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2204/1498004617_b320f55582_b.jpg

How was the braking and clutch?
The braking was extremely good, you could use the brakes to stop on a dime or to slide into a corner. The clutch is really smooth and it is very easy to shift. The brake and clucth are easy to reach also.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2094/1498867442_688d86dd16_b.jpg

Pappy
10-06-2007, 12:03 PM
You looked pretty confident riding it, would you recommend this quad to others?
VERY MUCH! Especially for riders coming off the 90's. It is very light and forgiving. It has good power for older riders who are to small for the 450's

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2333/1498856996_9246a3fa5e_b.jpg

There is a race tomorrow, you hittin' it:devil:
Depends on if i can get a ride:p

I think its really cool it has a manual clutch and all. Can't help but notice the front bumper, or lack of for that matter lol.

As for tippy weren't the first raptor 660 ( i know a totally different machine) tippy as well ?

And Pappy, those pics are great especially the 3rd down (looks like he is going down hill) The 1st one also, i love the background.

Is there enough power to get started running MX, I know you would have to modbthe suspension & Width, but could it compete with the 300ex the blasters that kids are still riding?? Is there a suggested price on this little animal?/

Agree. I'm 5'-6" and the 300ex is a perfect fit. The 250 would be a tad cramped, especially once he starts getting into the 5'-9"+ range.

bradley300

pappy, be careful taking off the headlights, it looks to me that taking off the rider's left headlight leaves the ignition coil vulnerable.

also, my sponsor should have some 45.5 inch total width long travel (about +2.75 +1, with 4+1 wheels) a-arms going soon, he has already had my quad for 2 days so he should be working on them. he is also working on a swingarm and working to get the shocks for it. you will like the price alot also!

GYTR skid will be here wednesday. ITP baja's will be here later in the week, and I will mount some razors on them. (trying to keep it light)

keep in touch with me Brad, I doubt I will spend much cash on suspension as its working pretty good at his weight, but I wouldnt turn down a good offer to test or run someones parts depending on what they want.

yea i c ur point :D , ive been teachin him to ride a cluch cause he just started and the only thing hes worried about(besides learning more on how to ride) is that he'll want more power if he gets a 300ex, and would rather get something with more power to begin with and not spend alot in aftermarket parts, so i thought a 400ex would b better. thanx for the help by the way. and cody looks like hes havin a blast.

hey pappy, i was wondering how old is cody, how big is he and how much room does he have on it. also, how would you compare it to a 300ex. i am 15, 5 foot 5 and looking for my first bike. dont want to spend too much and gonna be riding trails mostly. would you recommend this atv for me? if not what would be better.

thanks for all the help and great pics,

Pappy
10-10-2007, 06:46 PM
Both are pretty equal, with the 300 edging the yammy in a slight amount of felt power(although the yammy revs faster) the yammy handles better stock for stock . Cody is 14, 4'9" and has plenty of room. If you are 5'5" and growing I would say the 300 would be the better fit. If you could imagine there being a quad sized between a trx90 and a 300ex, this is it...sort of:p

ok thanks, so you think the raptor would out perform the honda in the trails because of its faster revving and better handling?? i would probly start on the raptor and eventually sell it to get a new bike. and the honda costs 1000 bucks more. i should probly go up to the local yammy dealer to check out the size.
thanks again

Give him a pat on the back for me! He went out there on a stock bike and no seat time and finished well on a dusty rough track. Congrats!

There was a possible clearence issue once we installed the larger front tires. I will order in a set of nerfs made for this model this week

he did pretty good. he finished 13th out of 27 in his class, and 244th out of 380 overall. not to bad on a stock bike with 3 hours seat time leading up to therace and for not being on a quad since august he did just fine. his goal was just to finish:p

he said teh quad worked well, nd in stock form is a great starting platform for better suspension etc.

both are stock offset. 3-2 fronts but no idea on the rear.

im watching closely what comes available as far as arms and a swing arm etc. this is going to be a sweet starter quad in stock form, and i think will do awesome when the right parts are added. id like it to be about 3 inches wider in the front, equal to the rear and have a lowered ride height. all in due time
