rebuild time coming up! please read..

Ok, this X-mas I'm planning on getting a rebuild for my 400ex. I Already have a Hotcam Stage 1 and a HMF slip on with a vented airbox lid and Twin air air filter.

I'm thinking about a powerful 416 kit with 11:1 comp piston, and possibly a FCR carb

About how much would that run me? Also in case its too expensive what about the rebuild not including the carb.

I'd say brand new about 700 bucks. But I am not quite sure, what else you got planned?:)

I'm saving up for TCS shocks right now, and I plan on doing a few other things to it geometry wise.

I'm planning on racing it next year or whenever my quad is ready.

I'm gonna go with a TCS rear stock rebuild on my 400ex. They convert it to TCS standards for $250 thats the rebuild/revalve/resprung

Save alot of money and use the 450R carb. You will leave 1-2 HP on the table, but the 450R new is about the same price as a used FCR carb!

Then you could take the extra money and spend it on porting!

well i dont know what a 416 kit cost, but for a brand new fcr from honda, is like 600+, but you can pick up a used one for like 300 or less. you should get the hd studs too, for 11 to 1 comp. and you can look into getting so porting if you feel like you can afford that, and maybe a head pipe too.

I believe for the '06 and newer carbs that is correct, but the for the '04-'05 450R carbs the price is $172, NEW, from Servicehonda.com!! I just bought one!

I would NOT use the '06 or newer version as this is an FCR. I can't tell you if it would work, however the '04-'05 will!

Well I thought all the years for the 450r were FCR carbs. Guess not. I'll have to look for an 05' 04' 450r carb then.

huh. i am lost, the fcr carb is the best of the best, i dont see why you would be putting a 04/05 carb on, they arent nearly as good as the 06+ fcrs. and from service honda the fcr carb is 440 bucks, you can find them cheaper on ebay, i found a yfz one that needed i think a float, and the float pin for 225.

I had an after market FCR that I bought from Sudco on my 416. It is a fine carb, but for me it never really ran right. I had some detonation issues, the quad would falter when you stab the throttle (even while you were riding it), and it seemed really flat on the low end. I changed exhaust, carb, and used race gas. Most of the problems went away.

IMO the FCR is good carb, just hard to tune and I just could not get it to run the way I wanted. Several engine builders I spoke to kinda had the same sentiments.

The FCR carbs are very "touchy" to tune, they need to be spot on at all times, but when they are they run excellent. The 04/05 450R carb is a great inexpensive mod.

For the money Id say the 04/05 too. I got mine off of ebay a while back for around $75 and it was already set up for a 400. Just gotta look around.;)
