I was searching Columbia's site and found two colors that might be good choices for my frame. One would be their standard Smoke Gray or Black Chrome. I like the way the Black Chrome looks and I believe you mentioned that as an option, however isn't that the powder that can sometimes look green?

Do you have any better pictures of both of those besides a mailbox. lol

Pappy
10-03-2007, 06:24 PM
Yes, the Black Chrome or Chrome Smoke can take on a greenish tint in certain light. It also has a flaw in that it can develop black spots(This is a flaw in the powder and affirmed by the powder manufacture, not an issue with application)

I think that color would be darker then what your after as well.

Pappy
10-06-2007, 07:55 PM
dave, how about gun metal? remember my 450r?

Dave400ex
10-22-2007, 07:12 PM
Well I hate to say it but I think the gun metal is darker then what I am after.

Have you ever used Columbia's Mid Gloss Gray?

Pappy
10-22-2007, 07:18 PM
yep, reminds me of a battleship grey...lol

if its a plain silver you want, rally wheel silver with clear will work.

Dave400ex
10-30-2007, 06:15 PM
I found a picture of the Rally Silver, but not a great one. Do you have any pictures of it? It might be the ticket. I'll be sending the frame/sub as soon as next week.

Pappy
10-30-2007, 06:25 PM
dave, i have a few batches to run this week and i will try and shoot a scrap part in that color for you

Dave400ex
11-06-2007, 05:18 PM
Did you get a chance to shoot any color?

The frame is shipping tomorrow. Gonna ship it DHL.

Items shipped:
Frame
Subframe
Rath front nerf bar mount so you can use it for the gusset
Stem bearing and clip are still in frame

Gusset Frame/Subframe. I want it overtubed by the upper motor mount instead of the Bare gusset and the gusset for the nerfs will have to be cut down and then the one up front for the Precision stabilizer which we talked about all of that. You can see where it was mounted. Just leave a little extra room. I might need to check with Rath about the one by the nerf bar tube, I'm not sure how their skid plate attaches.

Final, there is a broken bumper bolt in the frame. Could you get that out. lol

Pappy
11-06-2007, 05:53 PM
ill do my best on the broken bolt

i may need you to send me the dampner and one nerf but i should be able to use the existing marks to get a measurement from. the nerf gusset doesnt worry me as much as the dampner but wait until i get the frame here before sending it etc

Dave400ex
11-06-2007, 05:57 PM
If you can't get the bolt no biggie. It just needs drilled and then could be threaded out.

No problem on sending the stuff if need be. I'll be sending the other stuff to PC and Moly so I could just send them with it.

Dave400ex
11-10-2007, 08:22 AM

Pappy
11-11-2007, 06:15 AM

Dave400ex
11-11-2007, 08:55 AM
Yeah I forgot to put my name inside it, but mine has the black nerf bar mount on the upper main frame tube.

Dave400ex
11-18-2007, 05:29 PM

The above parts should be there tomorrow.

The guy building my motor also sent everything to you yesterday, so you should get it tomorrow as well. It will be from Moto-Xperts. Cylinder, head, head cover, etc...

I do want to make a change to my list above, Upper motor mount the same as the frame and front fender mounts as well, same as frame.

Ty's400

I heard you are going with HOT PINK for the frame! :D

Dave400ex

Engine List:
Cylinder and Head - Molycoat
Head Cover - PC Red
Oil Filter Cover - PC Red
Water Pump Cover & Thermostat Cover - Moly
Shift Shaft - Moly

This stuff should be in the two boxes from Moto-Xperts.

Dave400ex
11-25-2007, 02:34 PM
What are the chances of having the frame and engine stuff back the weekend of Dec. 8-9th? Getting it back that Friday would be great. My deadline is coming up on me fast ... like always

Pappy
11-25-2007, 03:57 PM
that shouldnt be a problem. i prepped all the small parts friday, will gusset the frame over the next few days and it, the sub and a few other parts will head over to stripping. i should have them back early the following week and then coat them immediatley and ship them off.

That is awesome! Getting me excited to get it together now.

Pappy
11-26-2007, 06:02 PM
the rally silver will end up being a tad darker then the oem frame color, but lighter then the front hubs...kind of close to the rear hub color.

i need an address to send these part to so i can get them on their way

Dave400ex
11-26-2007, 06:11 PM
The engine parts go back to Moto-Xperts where they came from. Whatever came in the box can go back to him. Anything I sent you, you can wait and send with everything I sent when it's done. If you want, you can wait and send the engine stuff back after the engine cases show up. Then just send it back all at once to Moto-Xperts.

Pappy I went to the local PC place today to look at their samples. I found the perfect color, it was PPG brand Silver.

Pappy
12-01-2007, 07:39 AM
did you get a product code #?

Dave400ex
12-02-2007, 12:00 PM
No I didn't see a product code.

I just wanted to check and make sure, did you get my crankcases and sidecases last week? If there is no luck cleaning them, just blast them and that will be good.

Pappy
12-02-2007, 12:06 PM
yep, i have them

Dave400ex
12-03-2007, 06:42 PM
Pappy I called the local PC place to get the number and basically the guy didn't want to take the time to look. He told me to contact PPG and get a book. So all I could do is go back there in person and try to get it.

Do you have any PPG books? This color is driving me nuts

Pappy
12-03-2007, 06:49 PM
I shot a part in the other color today. i will get a picture tomorrow to show it. most of the silvers are very close and ppg is probably no different looking then tigers, and dont forget, your looking at a small flat piece of that color not on a round frame, believe it or not it makes a difference

Dave400ex
12-05-2007, 03:40 PM
Most likely that will be the color, but I'm interested to see it.

Dave400ex
12-07-2007, 05:38 PM
Hey Pappy any luck with getting the cases cleaned? Things were a mess

Pappy
12-08-2007, 09:42 PM
They are sure yellow! I will be working on them throughout the day tomorrow. Its warm enough now so that water wont freeze outside and I can get a tub mixed up to let these rascals soak.

Dave400ex
12-08-2007, 09:48 PM
If the cleaner works it's some good stuff. If not just blast the suckers and be done. That is how bad our water is, turns yellow as soon as it comes out the hose....sucks

With any luck I could have the motor and frame and get this thing together next weekend.

Pappy
12-08-2007, 11:38 PM
The bad part is, if they are blasted, they will look like *** after they reassemble teh engine and they will discolor fairly quickly. have you considered just having me coat them?

Pappy
12-09-2007, 10:49 AM
dave, this is the color. this does not have clear on it (old truck rim) so the gloss is low but its about the closest I can come to what your after

Dave400ex
12-10-2007, 05:13 PM

Pappy
12-10-2007, 07:46 PM
dave, engine cases ship tomorrow to Moto-Xperts

Dave400ex
12-10-2007, 08:48 PM
Sounds good. That should be the last of the stuff that goes back to him. Send the kicker and w/e else he might have sent back to him as well.

If you want keep the little allen plug out of the sidecase and I'll get the bigger one shipped with the rest of the parts for molycoat.

Everything looks great! I take it your back must be doing better.

When do you think the Valve cover will be back from stripping?

*Oh and if you could please remember to send back the snap ring for the stem bearing.*

Pappy
12-14-2007, 05:12 PM
back isnt any better, was pretty bad today. it takes till about noon for the ibuprofin to kick in and me moving as much as possible to keep it from locking up.

mid-week id geuss on the cover, and I will walk out and grab a snap ring as i will be boxing alot of this up tonight

Dave400ex
12-14-2007, 05:17 PM
Sounds great. Hopefully the back gets to feeling better.

Also I noticed in the picture, 5 of the engine collars are there. Did you do the other one and it's just not in the picture?

Pappy
12-14-2007, 05:50 PM
yep, there are 6 here done

Dave400ex
12-15-2007, 12:10 PM
Thanks for the last minute color change. I think the subframe will look sweet with the wrinkle black to match the ArsFX stuff. The wrinkle you did on BritBoy's swingarm looks like it would be close. You know the ArsFX powder, so it'll be close. lol

Pappy
12-15-2007, 07:31 PM
dave...this rath cross bar nerf mount, am i coating it? if so what color?

Dave400ex
12-15-2007, 08:27 PM
Nope you don't need to coat it. I'm getting a new set for the show. I only sent it to you for doing the gussets to make sure it would fit.

12-15-2007, 08:29 PM

Dave400ex
01-02-2008, 02:31 PM
Polished both outside lips or inside lips? LOL. Now I'm confused where the tape was. I might have it, on the outside lip that had powder on it? :D

Pappy
01-02-2008, 02:34 PM
10-4

there is a machined flat lip. depending on the color or how many layers of powder are required i will either tape it off or not. yours were taped, 1 just did not get the tape removed, 1 did. the powder goes right over the tape so you couldnt see it, but i knew it was there i just forgot and figured i would rather do it then have you do something that caused me to redo the hub and get angry:blah:

Dave400ex
01-02-2008, 02:37 PM

Also I just thought that you can just ship the master cylinder cover, rath bar, hubs and all that moly stuff I sent in the little box back with the cases to Toby and I can get it there. Saves shipping another box.

Pappy
01-03-2008, 05:50 PM
that sounds fine.

we are pretty sure the product i used to try and clean those cases reacted when heated and caused the moly to lift. ill get them done asap for you and cover return shipping as well. live and learn:p

Dave400ex
01-03-2008, 05:57 PM
I thought about that. I wonder why the Moly did it and the PC didn't? The cleaning chemicals might also explain the different shade of color/glossy look. Well hopefully they don't do it again

Pappy
01-03-2008, 06:02 PM
moly and pc are two different animals, as i saw no issues with the outer cases, they looked great and there should be no issues. no matter, it will be handled!

Dave400ex
01-03-2008, 06:07 PM

Dave400ex
01-04-2008, 02:44 PM
Moto-Xperts is fine. You can just wait and send that stuff back with the cases. No need to have to ship two more boxes. Just put the master cylinder cover, nerf bar mount, hubs and all that moly stuff in the same box. Oh and make sure to package all that stuff really good. Last box he got was a bit rough. lol. Dang shippers. Cases should be there Monday

Dave400ex

Dave400ex
01-08-2008, 08:52 PM
Ok that'll work. Your not superman? You da MAN though! If everything ships tomorrow he should have it Friday. I'll have to see if I can get him to put it together Saturday. Can't afford to wait until next weekend, show will be here before I know it.

Pappy
01-08-2008, 09:02 PM
also...oil is what caused the moly to lift. being cured for an hour brought trapped oil out of the case near the cylinder bolts and affected the coating. i cleaned cleaned and cleaned them again before pc, and it still came out but the powder had set and it did not harm it. (shorter cure time)

so..we should be good to go this time:p

Dave400ex
01-08-2008, 09:09 PM
That's good to hear. I don't need anymore phone calls saying my coating is flying off. lol

Pap you have any 05 450R front hubs laying around? It looks like the hubs you PCed are 06-up like my stockers and stuff isn't lining up.

Pappy
01-20-2008, 09:39 AM
no i sure dont. i am pretty sure i did not get yours mixed with anyone else because i havent had any 06/07's in here for quite awhile. (hubs that is...alot of 04/05)

get me another set here asap and i will get them knocked out for you.

01-20-2008, 12:07 PM

I sent you a PM. Hubs, see the small outer lip

Dave400ex
01-27-2008, 06:03 PM
Hubs got back... Big lip

Pappy
01-27-2008, 06:27 PM
I havent as of today had anyone say they have gotten a set of hubs back in the batch that yours was done and say they are having problems. They ofcourse would be having the same issue as you. I have zero problems working out the problem but the bigger problem will be time. (This doesnt mean someone hasnt re-assembled as of today and doesnt know there has been a mix up if there is a mix up)

You still have to get me another set here ASAP if you want them coated for the show , the rest we will work out but send me those back so I can have them if someone pops up a month from now needing the 06's!
(Ialso checked the pictures, I had 3 sets here that week, 2 06/07(yours and choreboys) and 1 04/05 (turbo530r)

also did some checking, inner bearing and dust seal are same for 04-05 & 06/07

***Dave, your 100% correct, its not the lip but two other things that the pictures show that prove you got back the wrong hubs. Let me know if you have a set ordered or if I need to get a set on order***

Dave400ex
01-27-2008, 08:39 PM
Glad that is figured out. Luckily I didn't have a set on the way yet, they were going to ship tomorrow so hopefully everything is ok there and no extra hubs will show up.

If you could, do the front hubs RED like the other red. ;)

I'm a pain in your arse :macho

Pappy
01-27-2008, 08:58 PM
Your a big PITA:blah: ;)

It all came down to someone buying hubs off ebay and they did not know there was a difference between them. when they got back their hubs that had to order spindles and it just happened that it worked out for them and everything fit etc (it was a build up from bought parts not a tear down reassemble build) so they never informed me of a fitment issue etc. With you being the only one having a problem, and knowing you were going the route of using the 04-05 set up (but not knowing you had sent the 04-05 hubs) I sent out the wrong ones. I knew i had yours and the other 06-07 quad seperated and the only other job in the works that day was an 04 R and having only 1 set of 04/05 hubs here it only made sense that everything was a go (i even remember looking up a pic of your R to see what front hubs you had and saw they were 06-07 style so away i went!)

well, it will all work out as always. as long as the strippers dont bust off the metal id plates i usually do not have this problem, ofcourse i cant blame them on this because i had seperated everything after getting these back from stripping and made the mistake:p

i will just be glad to have it solved, believe it or not this stuff worries me as if they were my own parts...maybe that is why folks keep sending me work because thats how i view every project...as if it were my own!

Dave400ex
01-28-2008, 03:27 PM
Sounds good. Are they done yet? :eek2: (Sorry I had to) :D

Dave400ex
01-30-2008, 09:13 PM
Being serious, when do you think you'll see the hubs/get them done etc?

Pappy
01-31-2008, 04:06 AM

Dave400ex
01-31-2008, 12:11 PM
Option one sounds best. Don't forget to do them Red.

By the way, are you going to be able to make it to the show this year?

Pappy
01-31-2008, 04:02 PM
Im going to try. I will be retired from my real job and doing my own thing at some point in the next 10 days, so I have to watch money like a hawk now:p But i would love to come out and see your quad and a few others I have had a hand in along with everyone from the shops I deal with all year

Dave400ex
02-02-2008, 07:57 PM

you should see your hubs mid week

Dave400ex
02-04-2008, 03:22 PM
Awesome! By the way, I sent the hubs without any bearings etc, so if he left those in there those are actually his. And I'm not sure with the Red if you PC the outer lip or not, but if not polish the outside like you did the other ones. :D

Pappy
02-04-2008, 03:26 PM
these will be sent without bearings

im going to do a batch of candy blue, prep the hubs and shoot them and if all goes well they will ship tomorrow.

Oh the ER, never good. Your just having a heck of a time as of late. I prefer the specialist. :D

If possible, I'm gonna have to have you overnight them tomorrow. I am taking it Saturday to do the final touches and set the front end up, put graphics on, grips, cables, etc, so I am needing them. I know, pain in the rear

Pappy
02-06-2008, 04:06 PM
still no real idea. they think it is my rotary cup (i geuss that is how its spelled) cody touched the area in between my shoulder and arm and i hit the floor. it wasnt really painfull but felt more like a shock. it was actually a tad bit better today but im sure that is due to not working last night. wife called some specialist today but i havent evcen had time to talk to her yet to see what the word is. lets face it, i work without taking much of a break and even a mild injury gets compounded when you keep beating on it. my own fault but i cant stop:p

dave i was planning on overnighting them regardless

Dave400ex

Man you are tore up. What ever happened with your back, just kind of let it go and see how it is type deal?

Pappy
02-06-2008, 06:24 PM
the deal with my back is 3 bad disc's. way to much lifting over the years etc. they want to operate but everyone i know that has similiar problems has told me to hold getting cut on until i cant stand it anymore. it gets sore from time to time, pretty much ended me riding hard, no tramploine lol. bad part is i cant exercise like i should because it makes my back hurt....catch 22 i geuss so i just deal with it:ermm:
