the o6/07 has higher compression, they tweaked the spindles a little for a different camber angle, springs are a little softer in the 06/07 the swing arm is a half inch or so longer on the 06/07, and i want to say they have a different size carb but i could be wrong on that one.......

The 06 07 do have a different carb which is an FCR. The 04 05 just have a regular 42mm keihen. The FCR is much better

Word is that the 06 and up R's don't handle as good as the 04-05' because of the spindles.

actually have ridden them both now...I noticed a few things, the 05 turns much better/easier and seems to handle much better than the 07..The 07 has much much more pull than the 05 and smoother too. It seems alot faster than the 05. The 05 is stock with a slip on, the 07 was stock and actually abused since it was a rental. Rims were bent etc..The 07 was really quick..

many differences in the motor as well. different port layout, ti in. valves, larger bore, shorter stroke, rummor is the tranny is beefier in the 05.

much easier to geta 06 to the 50hp mark but some say there is more potenial in the 05.

isn't the sprockets different, im thinking the 04-05 had a 14/38 and the 06-07 have a 13/38, i could be wrong though

changes for 06 trx450r-- 15mm longer swinger, better cam, higher compression (from 10.5 to 12.0) with the short skirt piston, 40mm fcr carb, much larger air filter, added cooling fan (lost oil cooler), re-geared trany (closer ratio) and dropped to 13 tooth counter sprocket, solid spendles/stronger a arms/hubs, stiffer front shocks, changed headlight/hood layout, added electric start option, and some other very small changes

the 04/05 have bearing issues
the 06+ have e-start issues

they have not changed much from 06 to 08
(just graphics/color options, gas tank)

stock 04/05 vs 06+ 06 is faster with equal riders
hrc 04/05 vs hrc 06+ 06 gets farther ahead with equal riders

06 corners like a bull dozer imo, 04/05 fronts where better

I have 2 05's and a 06 and a 07. If you get a 06 or newer get 05 spindle's and hubs will handle ALOT better. I like the way the 05 runs. It's smoother and does not tire you out as much. The 06 and newer bikes have tranny problems, thats why i switched back to the 05 wich has alot better tranny. It costs more to get the motor as fast a newer bike but it's worth it in the end.

I was told the 07 is as close to a CRF as possible....

graphics/frame color are main changes from 06-07
the motors are the same

biggest changes from 06 to 07 to 08 are all cosmetic

but yes the 06/07/08 motors are crf design motors

Hey everybody, new with a quick Q. I have a 05 450, and my friend has an 06 450. He is selling his Sparks exhaust, and I want to use it. I've called up the local dealer, and Curtis Sparks(sp?) and they both say it won't fit. Not taking no for an answer, I went to the dealer to check out the differences for myself. If anything, there is very minimal difference in the rear most mounting tab for the slip-on. Everything else looks the same. So what gives? I take it the parts guy I talked with is a jackass, and the Sparks rep probably wanted to sell me a new exhaust. Any reasons why it shouldn't work?

In any case, I will find out for myself once I can access my quad, and try to put it on there. But if anybody has tried this already, please do tell. Thanks. Wish I woulda found this forum before I bought the quad, not sayin I don't love it, but first thing I see is how people have problems with different crap, makes ya second guess, lol.

I am pretty sure that Buck-naked r ran an 06 Sparks exhaust on his 04/05 (and it made some very nice gains, too!). If I remember right, the 06 Sparks worked, but his older model DASA did not work on the newer bikes.

the reason it will not work is that the mounting tabs are in different places...the way some exhuasts are made, they can work while others don't

since he is your friend, experiment a little...try to mount the exhuast...if it mounts, it will work, if not, then you know it don't work
