My 400EX is way down in the woods (4 creek crossings, couldn't limp home). Anyway, I'm going tonight to replace the cable, but want to make sure I bring everything I'll need. I've done them before, but it's been a while. Who's done it recently or knows what's needed? Thanks in advance.

You don't exactly have to change your cable out there. Just put it in nuetral start it up and shift down. That'll be the roughest part, and if you can just shift into 2nd and keep it their you'll be good. I've done it a few times.

Two 12mm wrenchs, or a 12mm wrench and pliers, or two pliers.

arent those nuts 10mm? anyway, vice grips are the easiest for turning the clutch arm, and just bring pliers for the nuts on the cable holder.

Thanks for the replies, vice grips was a good idea. I should be alright, I'll probably over bring tools anyway.

I wish I could have just limped home, but these are new trails and the creek crossings aren't 'friendly' enough yet to go up and down without a clutch.

I'm 99% sure they are 12mm. "clutch arm", whats that and why would you turn it?

All I needed was a 12mm and a regular pliers to turn the clutch arm to get the cable on. I got out of the woods without clutch'n to see if I could have gotten out. Thanks again.
