Round 11 of the GNCC Can Am Series, "The Yadkinville Stomp" was held this past weekend in beautiful Yadkinville NC. The area is akin to the Napa valley region of California in respect that this is wine country. Nestled in a hay field, and laid out over almost 9 miles of Carolia countryside, the track would once again prove a challenge to the racers as it is well known to be tight and twisty.

Turn out for the event was somewhat lower then other rounds, allowing the atmosphere to remain laid back and very casual as registration opened friday evening.

Cruising the pit area, I caught up with Warnert racings Rick Cecco who is going after the 4x4 Open championship. Rick had some finishes early in the season that were not to his liking due to equipment issues, but thankfully his aggresive riding style and his race prepped Can Am have both been tweaked allowing Cecco to start racking up the wins as the season progressed.

I had planned on doing my usual pit shots friday evening in between shoots with riders, however I had to bolt out of the race to go get a friend who's truck had broken down enroute to the race. I tried to sneak up on Joe Borich who was kicked back and relaxing but the eagle ear caught me:p Joe is a cool cat and a blast to chat with at the races.

Womens multi-time champion, Traci Cecco, started the season on fire. She racked up win after win after win until the Snowshoe round found her out of her groove. Somerset and Unadilla also posed problematic as she was unable to grab the #1 spot at these events. Talking with her prior to this event, her plan was simple, get out front early and stay there.

Angel Atwell gets ready to mount her LTE Racing prepped Honda and see if she could continue the momentum she has going after winning at Unadilla. It has been a pleasure watching her program develop over the past few seasons and now she is primed to win races at every round.

Stephanie Parton sits aboard her Polaris Outlaw as the warming sunshine bathed the morning racers. The weather was almost perfect with mild temperatures and enough blue sky to make me wish for a hammock and a nice cool beer to kick back and watch the race:p

Joey Margaria set his race prepped Yamaha Blaster out front from the start as he is shown here grabbing the holeshot in the Sport class. With as tight as this track is, Margaria stood his best chance of the season to pilot his machine back to the front. He has seen the podium before, but getting an overall was his goal!

This years course really wasn't bad to get around for taking pictures, however it lives up to it's reputation for being tight! I left the starting area looking for a cool spot in the woods and before long I could hear the sounds of the leaders heading my way.

I had intended on doing some cool zoom/blur shots but Traci was going so fats it got a bit out of hand..haha:p

Micheal Benson came past as i did my best to "get small" on the side of this narrow track. Just by the lack of sound one could tell this course was going to be run at much lower speeds. usually i can hear them coming and get behind a tree, today i was being snuck up on and diving for cover:p

After a few miles marching in the woods, and not finding anything that had any "wow" factor, I pitched camp and set up to catch the riders. Traci was out front and riding smooth on lap 3

Crossing the pits and heading for the podium, the announcer was telling the tale of the race as Joey Margaria had just won the overall!!! This is a great accomplishment for this young man and his machine and I am sure Blaster owners world wide will be smiling for some time to come!

Scott Sleppy, a fellow Sport class racer, had followed Margaria at many events this season capturing several top 10 overall positions. This event proved to be the right combination and he took the number 2 spot overall on his 300ex!

Christopher Newton has been doing great in the 16-19 C Class this season, but never in his wildest dreams did securing a top 3 overall finish seem to be within his grasp. Newton piloted his YFZ450 to the number 3 spot shutting out the bigger names of the morning classes!

The battle for the womens class was hot right to the end, unfortunatley for Traci cecco a tangle with a lapper in the last few turns allowed Atwell to scoot past her for the win. Cecco's second place finish allowed her to wrap up the Womens championship and she accepted her number 1 plate!

Scott and Joey have been battling all season and each of them now have five wins and three seconds.

They are heading into the last two races virtually tied and I think its going to be a battle to the finish of the Ironman.

Scott's racing an Old School Honda 250X!!
