Well guys im now looking into new modifications for motocross applications on my 300ex and im on a tight budget. Ive been thinking about elka shocks, a durablue rear axle, front wheel spacers to widen it 2.5"in front, im painting the front a arms black and getting black race cut maier plastic and ive also seen a widening kit from diamond j customs which im very interested in. I know you are going to say new front a arms but im on a budget and I cant afford to be dumping 550+ dollars on any one thing. Well any suggestions or helpful hints are appreciated, thanks!

I was also looking at a used 2001 raptor 660 shock and does anyone know how these mount up?

I have the raptor rear on my daughters. I took it to TCS and had them rebuild it and set the stop right. If you don't it's actually longer than the stock and you could crush the pipe if you bottom it out real hard. Otherwise its a *****in upgrade. I paid 60.00 on ebay and another 175.00(I think) for TCS to rebuild it.

Mounting the 01 rappy shock is as simple as bolting it on but you may need a washer or 2(can't remember). I agree with castone001... the mod isn't much good unless you have the shock properly set up(as with any shocks)

Stay away from the widening kit...very bad setup. You front end geometry will be way off and the shocks won't work properly either. The spacers aren't much better but still better than the widening kit. You would be better off going with cheaper shocks like works and picking up a used set of aftermarket a arms to widen the front. You will be much happier with the final product even if works aren't the best plus you may even come out a few $$ ahead. I tried the cheap route(spacers, etc...) and it doesn't work as well as you would think.

you can get aftermarket 400ex a-arms off here or ebay pretty cheap. then you can use the top shock mount relocator fot 400ex shocks or not use the relocator and works can build you a shock the right length for the 400 a-arms. i have this setup on my sons 300 and it works good. also used 300ex extended axles are hard to find but 400ex axles are easy to find. i put a used 400ex lonestar axle on my sons. i gave $150 for it, found it in the parts section here. also a stock 400ex steering stem will work with a little modification and is about an inch longer that the stock 300 stem.

As long as the armadillo arms are made for the 300ex then yes standard shocks will work. You just need to let the shock company know what setup you are running when you buy the shocks(if you are buying new). Otherwise if you get used shocks you will have to send them out to be set up for your front end, riding style, etc...

Ok cool well that me kind of lean to saving a few more bucks and go for the armadillos and a full elka sports racing setup. Does any one know how they would perform for a 110 lbs. 13 year old riding mx for fun and a little competetion?
