does anyone actually have 1 of these yet?

my dealer has not got them in yet, and im just wanting to see the size diff. in the pics it looks small, but could be large kids riding it. has anybody seen the raptor 250 sitting next to a 450? is it smaller than a blaster or 250ex? some real world pics would be nice. need to get my son a upgrade and if this is on the smaller size, this could be it.

thanks...

i should be getting my tomorow and i'll post some pics

it looks tiny, maybe even smalelr than ablaste, but there wasnt a blaster there for me to compare it to. anyway, its basicly a blaster from w/ +1+1 a-arms and a +1 swingarm w/ +2 axle (dimensions wise) even tho it looks small, i couldnt get my knees to hit the front fenders like i could on my blaster, and the steering stem might be a tad taller also.

all of the dimensions are bigger than a blaster, its 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider. it feels real comfortable, and for a beginner, the motor is real nice and smooth-imagine a 300ex motor in a blaster frame, and thats pretty much what you have here

dang that looks real sweet. what are your plans for it?

thanks bradley....looks good. i really need to see in person. it looks like it sits alot lower than a 250ex

bradley300

it has 19 inch rear tires on it stock, what you see in the pic are 22 inch fronts and 20 inch rears. it should sit the same height as a blaster with the same tires. i do have the preload on full soft

everything, i bought it because my sponsor wants to make parts for it. there will be a set of 45.5 inch width LT cross country a-arms for it ASAP, and a 49 inch set of MX a-arms should be along soon. also a extended swinger, axle, shocks and a 300cc big bore, blade style brake rotors, stainless steel brakelines... all the usual stuff

i'll be racing it in the sport class at the GNCC's next year

What are the length of the front shocks, curious! Thinking of getting out of the mini's and getting one for my son to start racing? Seems like a nice little Quad, does the feel sitting on it bigger/smaller than a blaster, or even a 300ex? My local dealers haven't got any yet so we are just trying to catch any info.

Thanks

it feels a little bigger than a blaster, but i think its just the plastic shape, the front fenders are shaped quite a bit different which provides alot more knee room.

the front shocks are 13.5 inches

to me, it really feels like a blaster, with a 300ex motor so its the best of both worlds. really lite, with a real smooth power delivery.

to get an idea of its size and suspension. its like a blaster with +1+1 a-arms, +1 swingarm and a +2 axle. the stock shocks arent quite as good as a 300ex but better than a blaster. (real close tho) but i'll be replacing those anyway. also, the way the plastic is shaped, there is much more knee room than a blaster. the brakes seem to work really well also. as compared toa 300ex, you can really feel the weight difference as the raptor is very easy to flick around. it also feel real stable, the stock tires are 19 inch but i already have my 20inch holeshots on it and in 5th gear, drifting around a wide sweeping corners is easy and doesnt scare you

the motor feels very simlar to a stock 300ex, real good low and mid range, and falls kind of flat on top. it has a very long header pipe tho, so i think with a shorter, bigger header and new silencer, it may take care of the top end. if not, we will adress it with the porting. unlike a 300ex it has an oil cooler, but it does not have an external oil tank like say a 400ex i'm not real thrilled with where the ignition coil is mounted (behind the left headlight) so i will be making a gaurd for it and/or leaving the headlights on.all in all, id's say the raptor is faster out of the box than a blaster or 300ex, but the 300ex is a four valve so it shuld make more power if you really push it. for xc it wont be much of an issue, but for MX the motor may hold you back a little since it probably cant make the same power as a built 300

i'm taking this up to my sponsor tomorow so we can start making 45.5 XC and 49.5 inch MX width LT a-arms set up, new swingarms and probably a 300cc big bore kit and experimenting with porting. we are also going to try and work with places like RPM and HMF to get parts going if they are willing

as for retro fitting stuff, it looks like it shares a sprocket hub and skid plate mounting w/ a yfz, so if you waned to run the GT Thunder sprocket gaurd and plastic skid you could. it also has a yfz bolt pattern unlike the blaster that had a unique pattern so normal yamaha wheels will fit this. i havent looked real hard, but i'd be willing to bet blaster nerf bars would fit. also, it uses yfz rotors, which is nice because my sponsor has wave rotors made already that will fit, and it uses a blaster air filter, but thankfully, the air lid comes off w/ no tools

just ask if you have any more questions

Pappy

he likes it alot. today he will hit the woods to see how it does but he feels pretty good on it. now we just have to search out a few sponsors to get the suspension where we want it:confused:

pappy, i'm working on 45.5 inch total width LT a-arms right now, as well as a swingarm. they are from the same sponsor that built my blaster (i think you met him in st. clairsville 2 years ago)

10-08-2007, 07:33 PM
thanks, and what about the power. i know it is really light so how is it compared to a 300ex and raptor 350. also what about aftermarket parts. i would like nerfs and maybe a pipe.

wanta450
10-08-2007, 07:46 PM
would this be a good step up from a 250ex as in power handling and durability for someone that wants to stay in the sport class

i think its just as fast as a 300ex, pappy says he thinks it may be a tick slower

aftermarket parts are coming, i think pappy got nerfs on his already, and gyt-r already has a pipe and skids

cody is 4'9" and fits it like a glove. he keeps repeating how light it feels and how much he likes it. if he was a bit taller, i wouldnt even feel the need to switch from his 300, but he needs every advantage he can get

he raced it at the powerline gncc and did very well being it was stock except for some tires and little seat time on it.(and not racing in 4 months!) he finished 13th out 30 i think, and 145 out of 380 overall. he said he felt he could have done a ton better if it werent so dusty, passing was hard etc.

for a stock quad, it did fantastic. handled well, shocks were ok for being stock etc.

after the second turn, we watched him rip up a hill heading for the 4th turn and it did out power many 300exs....but thats racing and not an accurate judge of it being faster etc

hey bradley300 what bend of flex bars did you put on that raptor 250?

and

do you know of any steering stabilizers out there yet?

bradley300
11-15-2007, 02:13 PM
i'm not sure what bend the bars are, they were on my yfz when i bought it, and i put them on the raptor when i sold it.

as for stabilizers, if you want a stick type, they are pretty universal. snyder motor sports has thier own now. they are pretty cheap, rebuildable and the adjstments are more spread out so you will feel a bigger difference with 1 click. www.snydermotorsports.net number is on the site

I really wish i could race in an event like this, sadly theres nothing that goes on like that around here. I have been riding atvs for as long as i can remember, and even have my own track at home. Your son is very lucky to have such an awesome oppertunity and a dad supporting him! Your a great dad!
