Started off with probably the worst 2004 400ex i ever seen. bought it for 800$. Motor was blown, needed every bearing/seal, needed all plastics, air box, bars, subframe, wiring harness, you name it . it was the biggest butch, half *** quad .

I basically just used the main frame, shocks and swing arm.
I had it done in two weeks. Still needs more but deffiently rideable now!

Converted it to the 06 body, 450 pegs, new cables, rebuilt the calipers, all new hardware through out the bike. Pics suck, but you get the idea. Let me know what you guys think. Still needs stuff here and there to be a little better . I might give her my 450 shocks and +2's and get some good suspension for my 400.

Looks great, Can i ask how did you convert it to the newer plastic? is it just a bolt on deal or some modification?

Thanks!

I went with all new plastic and seat...., but the main things that people dont tell you you need would be obviously an 04-05 450 headlight or 05-07 400ex headlight. and also the mounting bracket that goes under the hood, you need to weld this to the frame as the older frames dont have the mount for the new style headlight.

Front and Rear fenders
gas tank cover
side panels
hood
and theres also a piece of plastic that goes under the headlight.

if your just switching to the newer style front fenders and using an aftermarket hood such as maier- u dont need anything--- just the front left and right fenders with a hood for the newer style front fenders--- u DO NOT NEED SIDE PANELS OR TANK COVER unless u feel like spending extra cash???---- my 2000 400ex has all black 07 plastic with the nice maier scooped hood---

Hes right, but i just listed what i replaced, didnt say you needed to replace them. As far as the side panels the older ones have a different design but still are the same shape and fit the same. As far as the maier hoods, IMO they look like junk, especially the fake carbon fiber one . If your not worried about a headlight, a hood would be a good option . GEN X, quad tech, etc are soem ncie ones.

Shocks need to go for sure LMAO,
