How do you go from the regular 400ex to the Big Bore 440 kit. Does the existing sleeve press out and the new one pressed in? Or do you have to bore the existing sleeve out and press the new one in. Also can you change the cam chain out without going into the bottom end? Is there a better cam chain out there than the regular 400ex one?

you get a new sleeve and bore out the cylinder, then press in the new sleeve.

yes you can change the cam chain with out taking apart the bottom end, i believe its only the clutch cover you need to remove. the crf450 chain is the same as the HD cam chain, but cheaper so buy that one.

also with the 440 put in HD studs from GT thunder. if you dont you will blow head gaskets

thanks again. also i have stock exhaust is it going to be all right to run for a few months like that without aftermarket? I just don't have the money to do exhaust. So far all labor and boring is free and my grand total is still $406 so thats the most i will be spending rith now.

You won't have problems running with your stock exhaust. But when you do upgrade it, remember to properly jet it.

What all mods have you done/are considering doing to your 400EX?

I have a UNI. Plan on doing a crf450 cam chain as mine is worn out. 440 Big bore kit. Stage 2 hotcam or stage 1 haven't made my mind up yet. Dyno Jet kit. I have Nerf's Holeshots and bumpers. So once i do the big bore all i will need is exhaust and i will be happy with my bike.

I still can't grasp what i need to do to with the sleeve. So why can't you bore the cylinder over 140 and not use the sleeve. I know someone whos gonna bore it but he don't understand why we need to use the sleeve.
