It's right next to the main jet. I think the new ones do look different.

You need to remove the entire bottom float bowl from the carb to get to it. You need to also loosen the carb from the airbox and head so you can turn it about 30 degrees in order to get to these four screws. Remove the four screws and it will pop right off. Be careful not to loose any of the plastic pieces that may drop out. It's pretty easy, just take your time. Good luck.

these new ones look a lot longer than the ones in the pics in the shop manual. Is that supposed to be? would it matter if it stcks out more?

I just put in a 40 in my 300, and it was just a little bit longer than the stock one. It runs great, and no more backfiring when I let off the gas. It should be fine, just compare it to the stock one before you put it in. You should see the end with the holes in it should look almost identical. The end with the screw slot should be slightly longer. This makes it easier to put in, and does not seem to have any negative effects on my 300.

some people mistakenly call the Emulsion Tube the pilot jet, which it is not, but i assume by the #40, you are infact talking about the pilot jet. as already mentioned its the smaller jet beside the main jet. oh and take the carb all the way off, its a mother****er to do on the quad, and all the time u spend cursing the quad you could have taken it off and done it in under 5 minutes.
happy jetting :D
